slow wifi on iPhone 5

I am getting slow wifi with iPhone 5. It is half of what I get with my iPad 3 with iOS 6. Are you seeing a similar problem?

I have Gen 2 airport extreme and gen 3 timecapsule 2 tb (has built in AE) and i've been having the same problem with my iphone 5. My connection trickles web, video etc, the setup is both extended to my dsl box cause i had a NAT issue if i just did a create wireless. through countless configuration on both AE's i finally disabled (allow wireless connection) to the timecapsule gen 3 so it forced my iphone to the AE gen 2 and now its much faster with out interruptions. Both AE's are updated to latest firmware/software so i can only say that the AE is much older version then that of the timecapsule's AE (built in). disabling LTE/ enabling LTE made no impact in connectivity or speed. just FYI, i trouble shot both components seperate, together, creating and extending wireless and the above configuration is the only one that happens to work for me. all my other devices (iphone 4s, ipad3, ipad1, 2 macbookpro's) worked fine in any wired or wireless configuration and not the iphone 5.

I tried setting the Client ID as well. and it worked for me - even though i'm using DHCP - i am able to set the Client ID in the wifi settings.

My setup is a ISP supplied Router running DHCP, and a Timecapsule in bridged mode, with a couple of Airport Express'es to extend my range.

Everything seems to work after this entry.

My iMac's and Macbook air, aswell as my iPad and iPhone 4s does not have this problem. It seems it's software on the iPhone 5.

However - give it a try guys !

This is most certainly a bug/IOS 6 issue after having downloaded the latest update. Many people having the same issue = bug. My Wi-Fi connection has severely degraded on both my IPhone 5 and IPad 3 since I accepted IOS 6.0.2. I am with Verizon and when using Wi-Fi my download speeds whent from 10mbs to 1mbs. You can see the bandwidth numbers clearly by using the speedtest.net app. No need to test by streaming videos, surfing, or trying to use face time. I thought that my Linksys router was the problem at first, but after having tested my other Wi-Fi devices (Macbook Pro, Samsung Note 10.1, Android phone, and Laptop) using the speedtest.net app it narrows it down to my Iphone5 and Ipad3 being the problem. Having added Google map was great, but they really broke something within the Wi-Fi program which is rather an inconvenience. Hope they fix this soon, it’s getting annoying and something you would expect from Android devices and not Apple products. Can’t believe I gave up Android after so many years, hope Apple steps up their game.

I did the following already with no results.

1. Did a reset Network Settings on the IPhone5

2. Did a reset on the wireless router

3. Updated firmware on wireless router

4. Gave up and did a full reset on the IPhone 5

5. Hidden network enabled/disabled

6. Changed channels on router as well as changed it to mixed, b, and g.

I just noticed this issue last week. All other devices in my house, phones, pcs, MacBooks, video game systems, and everything that uses wifi at all works perfectly fine but my iPhone 5 could barely be considered connected. Apple it is not our responsibility to fix your screw ups. My wireless network works GREAT on everything device here but your phone. I will not be changing my wifi network at all. Please put this on the top of your priority list. I'm tired of having to use my very limited data plan IN MY HOME when I should be saving it for times when there is NO access to wifi. This is pretty pathetic for Apple.

Get it together guys.

Thanks, turns out this is one way around the issue for now. I changed my wireless network mode to B-Only and my download speed increased up to 3MBs. I decided to go with "G-Only" to see what would happen and I am now getting between 15-20MBs download speeds. The Wi-Fi speed is pretty stable for now so I guess this will work for now.

Thanks again.

My iPhone worked great when I got it. I started having this issue not long after the latest iOS update. It stands to reason that this is a software issue and should be fixed by now. If it isn't a software issue and turns out to be a hardware issue then please take my iPhone and give me my money back so I can get a device that live up to the most basic of the promises from the manufacturer. I have gaytnt, which means I have a very limited data plan. I like to use my phone to surf the web, Facebook, tumblr etc. I don't want to be using up all my data when I have a perfectly working fiber connection at my house. I don't want to use it ANY time wifi is available. GET IT FIXED APPLE

I had same problem with slow wifi. I got my first phone on boxing day and spent 5 days trying to figure out why wifi was so slow. My not realizing wifi problem first few days cause 5 time my data use for one month. I got reimbursed for the data use and got a new phone. I wanted to fire apple and get android for the first time. But because high data use, they will not change to new product. I got new iphone. My second phone worked fine for couple of weeks. So I thought it was hardware problem but now this iphone 5 does the same thing. I cannot use wifi. I spent so much time with this. I am not very tech orientated. I did what I was told by apple guy from store, telephone company etc meanwhile, I lost my contact, notes and photos that I did not save. I am very disappointed.

I was wondering if there is plausible explanation and if solution is come?? What killed me was the apple store tech says he has same problem and he is waiting for a fix to be published.

Welcome to the club. As you can see, Apple has been dropping the ball significantly. First google maps (now fixed) and now this. Regardless, the temporary solution to your wi-fi problems is as follows: go to your wireless router settings and change the wireless network mode to B or G "ONLY". Do not use mixed. This is the only solution and it seems to work just fine for me and everybody else. I am no longer having issues with IPad 3 either.
