slow wifi on iPhone 5

I am getting slow wifi with iPhone 5. It is half of what I get with my iPad 3 with iOS 6. Are you seeing a similar problem?

After hours of frustation, B-only mode is the only fix. This is unacceptable. The iPhone 5 is Apple's flagship device. My home internet connection is faster than wireless B speed. With every software update, I cross my fingers that the problem is fixed. But as of IOS 6.1, this wifi problem has not been fixed. This temporary fix helps me at home but does no good when I am on my work's wifi and any other wifi. And yes, I have tested and noticed this speed issue on other routers. It's not like I have administrator access to downgrade every wifi connection back down to the old old old wireless 802.11B mode. I have owned every iPhone model since the iPhone 3G and never had this issue. Apple...please fix!

My iPhone 5 did have Wi-Fi issues when running the original 6.0 software. My problems appear to be related to the use of bridge mode on an Apple Airport. iOS versions 6.01, 6.02, and 6.1 fix these issues. My Wi-Fi works very well now. My airport is set in the default automatic mode which will support B, G, or N. I've also had it set to N only which works just as well.

I was really bummed out by the whole thing, my first iPhone and I couldn't get half the speed I was getting on my Motorola Atrix 4G. I've tried everything suggested on this thread and the only thing that seemed to work was switching to B Only mode on my wireless router settings, however, it came with a price. I was never able to get full speed neither on the iPhone or the iMac (iPhone: 2.6mbps maximum and 4mbps on the iMac for a 10mbps plan). I kept on waiting for an update of the iOS and finally, with the launch of iOS 6.1* yesterday my problems were solved**.

* I've downloaded the full software via iTunes and not via OTA.

** notice I've switched wireless router to B,G,N again and am getting full speed of 10.6mbps on both gadgets. I can finally enjoy my iPhone at full speed conection.

For me:

- Fritz!Box 7390 wireless router

- Everything works except iPhone 5

- This issue is intermittant. In fact if I reset the iPhone it will often work for a little while

- Ping from a laptop is less than 100ms. From iPhone it's 700ms ! (According to speedtest.net same local server)

Workaround

- Had to remove 5Ghz network and advertise on 2.4Ghz only, as 5Ghz does not support B,G

- Had to change 2.4Ghz network from B,G,N to B,G only

Summary

It really is dismal. If Apple don't fix in software soon I'll be requesting a replacement phone

I have the same issue i done everything finally ended buying a new router and still had the same problem this is how i temporarly resolved the issue.

I have dual band router: Iphone 5 goes on 2.4ghz Wireless B mode - Speed Test 6Mbps

All other devices Go on 5ghz Wireless N mode - Speed Test 50Mbps

The strange thing is if connect the Iphone 5 on wireless N i get 82.00Mbps but cant stream nothing and its slow as .. which doesnt make any sense. Typical podcast over wifi takes 1 hour if i switch the Iphone onto B mode podcast download takes 3 minutes.

So slow is fast and fast is slow 😕

I doubt its a hardware issue but that is the only solution i have found for now. Really dissapointing.

All ipads and Iphone 4 perfoming the same download on wireless are lighting fast iphone5 goes snail pace. Really confusing issue that needs to fixed.

Switching to Wirelessmode B is the only solution that works for me.
