Cracked Corner of iPad bezel and chipped alluminium back? Will Apple fix it or replaced?

Hi, I have the New iPad (iPad 3). Yesterday I dropped the iPad from about 1 foot and it landed on a door mat. In portrait mode, the top left corner of the bezel is cracked and the bottom left corner of the aluminium back is chipped. The bezel doesn't look too bad but I just don't want my iPad that I paid £479 for to be damaged. When it was dropped It was dropped it was had the Smart Cover attached which I thought might of given a bit of protection but obviously not....

Anyway, my question is do you think that if I took my iPad to apple they might give me a new one? It's still got 6 months of the 1 year warranty on it. I'm 14 and I saved up for ages to the iPad and now it's broken. My friend has the iPad 2 and when the volume button on his iPad broke he took it to apple and they gave him a brand new one right there on the spot. Maybe if I make them feel sorry for me they might up give it to me :). Does anybody have any experience of apple just giving them a new iPad when they cracked the screen.

PS. I bought the iPad the day it came out from the apple store that I'm going to try and get it fixed or replaced and I still have the receipt and box ect. I've been a very loyal customer to apple, I've bought 2 iPod touches, 2 iPads, Apple TV, bought loads of apps and music, surely they could do this one thing for me. I'm thinking about getting the new iPhone but will decide that by the service I get when I go in with my iPad.

Aside from the longer lasting phone support, not much else, unless you have an iPad with a manufacturing defect.
