WiFi disappears after 10.7.5 update on iMac

I posted this in the iMac drops wi-fi connection after 10.7.4 update, but it occurs to me that this might be a different problem. I was having problems with my wifi dropping connection under 10.7.4 just like most of the people in the other thread. I tried all of the "fixes" suggested, but nothing worked. Then apple came out with the 10.7.5 update with claims that it would improve wifi reliability, so I installed the update and my wifi disappeared entirely. I could not turn it on from system configuration, and when I clicked on the wifi icon, it read "no hardware installed". The only way I could connect to my "wireless" router was to install a wire!

Luckily, I have a back up drive so I reinstalled 10.7.4, and my wireless network (and those of my neighbors) reappeared under the wifi icon. I don't know if I will have the same disconnecting problems as before because I'm going to leave the cable installed until apple figures this whole mess out. One giant technological leap backwards!

Anyone else had this experience?

Maybe 10.7.6 will fix it ???

Yes, I am sure. I tried everything short of reinstalling the OS completely. I took it to the store, it worked fine with the Apple router. I took it to a friends, it worked well with their router. Also, while I was having these issues, I noticed that half of the typical routers found in my network lists (neighbors, etc) were not there. I confirmed with one neighbor who is directly across the courtyard they have a Netgear router too. As soon as I updated the Firmware, deleted those files, updated the security, changed a channel, and created a new location I started getting extremely fast speeds. Still working for me exactly a week later. I just updated the software again. There's a 10.7.5. fix.

I had this problem for a couple of days now with dropped wi-fi connection from sleep on my iMac. I have a Netgear router DG834. I upgraded the router firmware to V5.01.16 and this solved the problem.

Also, went to my local Apple store where the 'specialist' didn't have a clue what I was talking about!! Have to agree that all these issues are beginning to sour Apple's products.

Hi,

I had the same problem,

I tried most of all solutions given in this post, but none of them worked. I finally solved the problem.

I'm using a Freebox HD (which is the router) and in my original parameters : channels on the wifi configuration were automatically chosen.

So I unchecked this and I manually chose the channel 1, restart the freebox and Voilà... Problem solved.

For this :

1) Go to your freebox Parameters panel : https://subscribe.free.fr/login/

2 ) Go to "My Freebox" / "Wifi Parameters" / Wifi Canal

3) Uncheck automatically and choose the channel 1 (you can also try the 6 and the 11)

4) Restart your freebox and "Voilà!!"

What is strange is this paramater (Automatic channels) on the router never disturbed my wifi connection before the update 10.7.4 (& also 10.7.5)

Hope this will help some of you maybe on other brand routers !!

I have a 2008 MacBook Air . I upgraded last week to 10.7.5 to be able to install FileMaker Pro 12. I have gone 5 days with Internet, today I tried to connect and was given the" no hardware installed " message for wifi. One of the posts below said to start up in rescue mode and the hardware would be found Not so.. I have a linksys router in WPA personal I believe on channel 9. My husbands iPhone 4S also lost all connectivity to all wifi this week. Our tv, iPad 2, iPod and iPhone 4 still connect.. This is not a happy day.. I really ca not downgrade but I need Internet .. What to do?

Thanks in advance.
