iPhone5 issues with WPA2/AES Wifi

I am using a Dual- Band Linksys E2500 router with WPA2 Personal (WPA2/AES) enabled. None of my other apple products (iPhone4S, iPhone4, iPad2 and the New iPad) have had problems connecting to my router. But everything changed when I got my iPhone5.

Basically the iPhone5 is capable to connect to the WPA2-Personal wifi network but after 1-2min starts to drop network packages, hence, I cannot browse any page (not even the router page 192.168.1.1) even though I still have a valid IP and the wifi icon is shown on my top screen.

I pinged the phone from my router diagnostics page and while I can browse the web with the iPhone5, I can see no packages lost. However after 1-2min the iPhone5 cannot open any websites while still connected to the wifi, it starts to show network packages lost.

A workaround that I found was to create a "Guest" network (which is not WPA2-Personal) or even WEP. There are no issues when connecting to these alternate networks.

Can anyone out there confirm this issue?? Is it software or hardware related?? It seems to me there are issues with WPA2-Personal (WPA2/AES)

Thanks in advance,

C

I talked to Applecare technical support and senior rep, go over every step for two hours, final answer is go get a replacement....

I am having what sounds like a very close issue to these issues. Mine connects many times correctly however a lot of days I come home from work, it's connected but no data or a tiny bit of data then it stops. A reboot always fixes it until I come home from work the next day (or or 2, it doesnt happen every day) later.

It is WPA2/AES and I will be trying other encryption settings. I can remember macbook pros early on in the intel CPU days having probs with wpa2/aes as well.

Also, I have restored, DFU restored and set up as new. Nothing seems to change it. My wife's ip5 has no such issue. Its also Apple and it 98:FE to my 98:B8

Just checked my phone - 20:c9 - Apple WiFi chip. Girlfriends I5 is a 98:FE - Apple chip also.

Both have spotty cellular coverage and more importantly wifi problems. I imagine this has something to do with the battery drains we have been seeing as well..

At home, we have to be physically in the room with the router to connect - WPA2 AP (don't recall, but I think it may be set to AUTO TKIP or AES).

At work, I sit next to the AP on our Barracuda NG FW using WPA2 with AES in counter mode with CBC-MAC CCMP and the phones will not connect at all.

Don't know if it is worth noting, but as I sit in my office (next to the wireless AP as mentioned above); I go into Settings and I can watch my Wifi network cycle from "Company Wifi" two seconds later to "Not Connected" and immediately back to "Company Wifi". This loop constantly repeats and never ends. Imagine this is why my battery is terrible.

The connection never fully establishes itself and if I go into the Wifi networks, the company wifi SSID shows, but the loading circle spins forever. It may also be worth noting, I never get the wifi status bar indicator to come on.

Apple Store Visit #2 - Exciting!

So went back again today after the deep reset, got the same rep. However, instead of processing a replacement as we'd discussed, she wanted to send me home to call Applecare to "troubleshoot my network". The next part of the conversation was not pretty on either of our parts, and other than saying that won't say anything more.

Basically, she said she couldn't replace the phone because she'd tested it, and hadn't seen the problem. I pointed out she hadn't tested it, because she hadn't connected to an encrypted network. I scanned the list and found "Apple Breakroom", secured. I asked her to connect to that. She did, the 1st link loaded, and she said "See, it works." I slid the phone over, hit a 2nd link, and the lil mofo froze right on cue. She picked it up, started clicking links, and the look of "Aha" on her face was just so nice to see.

Apologies all around, replacement is on order. She was concerned the replacement could be bad, I said we'll just connect it to "Apple Breakroom", and if it works, I'll leave with it.

I don't think it will be feasible to go thru multiple units checking mac id's. Stock is limited. But quit blaming yourselves and your networks if you have other idevices working on them. AND DON'T LEAVE THE STORE WITHOUT PROOF IT WILL CONNECT TO AND MAINTAIN INET ACCESS ON THEIR OWN **** SECURED NETWORK!

I have the same issue. My Router is D-LINK 615, connect thru WPA2. My Iphone 4 (with IOS6 installed) works fine. But my IPhone 5 isn't working. It connects to my network, but wouldn't load anything at all. Right now I have to turn off my Wi-Fi.

I am sure they will probably fix it in their next patch, but I am not sure I want to wait that long. So I will see if I can exchange one tomorrow.

Talking to Apple Care is a waste of time. I told them my issue, they just say to go to Genius Bar.

Looks like im headed in for a replacement. I have the very specific issue where data speeds slow to a dead stop when connected to a WPA2-AES encrypted wifi networks. Speeds are as expected on WEP and even WPA2-TKIP networks. No noticable issues with cellular (4G, LTE). MAC address is reported as Apple manufactured (88:53:...)

This *****!!! Both iPhone 5 we bought have the issue that it doesn't work well on wifi with WPA2 encryption. I'm VERY VERY VERY disappointed. I have about 10 Apple products here such as ipods, imacs, appletvs and NONE of them have issue. I'm so disappointed I'm really thinking about getting an Android phone. Worse is that I don't have an Apple store close to me!!!

Then call AppleCare.

If you could get the product shipped to you, they can provide service the same way.
