iPhone5 issues with WPA2/AES Wifi

I am using a Dual- Band Linksys E2500 router with WPA2 Personal (WPA2/AES) enabled. None of my other apple products (iPhone4S, iPhone4, iPad2 and the New iPad) have had problems connecting to my router. But everything changed when I got my iPhone5.

Basically the iPhone5 is capable to connect to the WPA2-Personal wifi network but after 1-2min starts to drop network packages, hence, I cannot browse any page (not even the router page 192.168.1.1) even though I still have a valid IP and the wifi icon is shown on my top screen.

I pinged the phone from my router diagnostics page and while I can browse the web with the iPhone5, I can see no packages lost. However after 1-2min the iPhone5 cannot open any websites while still connected to the wifi, it starts to show network packages lost.

A workaround that I found was to create a "Guest" network (which is not WPA2-Personal) or even WEP. There are no issues when connecting to these alternate networks.

Can anyone out there confirm this issue?? Is it software or hardware related?? It seems to me there are issues with WPA2-Personal (WPA2/AES)

Ok Folks! UPS just dropped off my new replacement iPhone5 and I have an update for you: The new replacement works BEAUTIFUL with my WPA2 network and I did not change a thing. I got the new phone, restored my backup and I was able to connect and hold the Wifi connection.

P.S: My only complaint now is that the new phone came with some scuffs 😟

They won't change the chip in your phone. I have the same chip and 6.0.2 fixed all WPA2/AES problems I had.

Have you tried your phone with multiple routers? Make sure it's not just your router that the phone doesn't work with.

If you do decide to see an Apple genious, simply tell them that your phone does not work with WPA2/AES encrypted wifi networks and that you want your phone replaced.

I experienced no connectivity at my accountant's office yesterday on my 11 MBA

Next visit, when I have more time, I will have him explore his encyption settings

One of the tasks I perform is building public wifi networks at RV parks and apartment complexes

I discovered long ago - it is absolutely necessary to NOT use AES encryption - to enable consistant trouble free experience for Apple users

Many many Appple products will not pull an IP from a network using AES or if is set to AUTO - must be set to TKIP only

My experience over course of about 3-4 years and wide range of iDevices...

I fixed the issue by setting up my iPhone 5 with a static IP address in my router using the phone's Wifi MAC address. Now I get fast speeds and a consistent connection using WPA2 (AES).

I agree. I tried everything. Finally, I went and exchanged the phone at the Genius Bar. The new one works perfectly. It is definitely a hardware problem!

I took my iPhone 5 to apple they replaced it now I have working wifi! Just stop moaning and take your device back!!

Something else that will probably work is to use tkip instead of aes in your router settings for the wpa2 encryption.

Yep mine is the same WPA/WPA2 has problems and only lasts 5 - 10 seconds before giving up.

WEP and unsecured work fine.

To me it looks like a hardware issue, as far as I can see from the other threads people have got replacements which then work perfectly.

I had apple support ringing me today but got an email saying I had cancelled it! So now they are ringing tomorow.

I am going to push for a replacement.

I confirm apple care have also told me that i need (another) new handset, will also be going to my local apple store within a few days to hopefully get one that works. Will definitely be testing it before i leave! 😠

No change... This did not work for me. I called Apple and I spoke with two Senior iOS advisors. We troubleshoot everything that they could possible think and no improvement was made.

I having my phone replace through Apple Express Replacement for free. They can send you a new phon for free and you can ship your phone back to them once the new one arrives.

I will post an update on Tuesday or Wednesday with the new phone. I am planning NOT to make ANY changes to my WiFi network (since all my devices work with no issues) to see if a new phone is definitely the solution.

Spoke to support and they are replacing it.

They tried to charge me £29 for a courier charge but I told them I wasn't happy with that so they put me through to sales and the guy there arranged it without the charge!

oh hey guess what... after i got off the call with applecare, i realized i never tested my ipad 3 after upgrading to iOS6 with this particular setup... and guess what. the ipad 3 with iOS 6 also seems to be having the SAME problem with WPA2-AES encryption.

of course i realized this AFTER i talked to applecare, so now i will need to wait a few days for them to call me back and tell them i am experiencing this issue in a new way. strangely, this seems to be the first instance i have found of a non-iphone 5 product having this issue. perhaps it is a software issue with iOS6, and perhaps it is just me!

My Wi-fi MAC is 98:FE, which is registered to Apple. This is my second phone, and this one does NOT have the WPA2 issue (first one did.)

So while there may be something to Intel chipsets not having the problem, there are Apple chipsets (or at least phones with MAC addresses assigned to Apple) that don't have the problem. It's entirely possible Intel is generating chips with Apple MAC addresses.

We exhausted the number of unique MAC addresses years++ ago. We're recycling these days, and manufacters have used MAC addresses that were isused to defunct companies. It's possible Apple gave Intel a range to use.

yes. This is what I was told. She was going to troubleshoot but looked at their internal documents and found something dates from today (this afternoon). Then no questions asked. Just asked for my address and told me they were shipping new units tomorrow morning (overnight).
