iPhone5 issues with WPA2/AES Wifi

ok guys, just for more information, I have a IPhone 5 black 32gb, had a WPA2-AES issues like evevyone.

I talked to Applecare technical support and senior rep, go over every step for two hours, final answer is go get a replacement....

Yes, changing the network encryption works.

I changed from WPA2- AES to WPA2- TKIP, and my iPhone 5 connects perfectly.

However i can't downgrade the office encryption and hence i cannot connect at work.

This is extremely extremely frustrating.

This could also be a wireless N vs G issue. When you disable WPA2/AES it forces routers to move down to G because you cannot use TKIP to secure a N network. (confirmed drop to G on my routers using my macbook pro)

In my case, I have a router at work using 802.11G with WPA2/AES and have had 0 problems, but my N routers at home all have a problem.

Unfortunately, I didn't record the MAC address of the iPhone 5 I had originally with this issue before I had it exchanged for one that doesn't have the issue. Though I can tell you the working iPhone 5 I have now is an Apple MAC address.

Good info, but that's a different problem. The AES encryption problem that this discussion is around, you connect to an AES Encrypted WAP, have blazingly fast speeds for variable times, could be 30 secs, could be 10 min. Then, all internet connectivity stops. Period. There's no "speed" to measure. Sure, the gray bars are lit up, but you're getting nada from the internet. App store, Safari, Mail, nothing works until you reboot, toggle wifi, erase network cache. Then u have it for another few minutes. Reliably. Then it stops. Reliably. And it messes up on ANY AES network, reliably. Regardless of router brand or firmware, etc.

I'm not sure "working but slow" is the same problem. It might turn out to be that it is, or it might be related to anntenna, DNS, software, or Apple's fave excuse: "Network Conditions". The speed issues should probably have their own forum, or be in the general Wifi issues forum. We're alll pretty cut & dried and practically identical on our problems with the AES issue here.

My post was mainly in response to Funcher, who said he gauged speed by browsing and downloading large documents. He also said that he had s fast connection for a little while and then it slowed down, but he was still connected with much slower download speeds.

This was also my problem. When connected with WPA2 AES, I was getting very slow speeds but I didn't lose connection completely. When I removed encryption or changed to WEP, the normal speeds returned. So it's definitely in line with the title of the discussion.

firstly may i commend you that your input has made the most sense of all this forum and i have undertaken the tests involing pinging the router with the app inet.

what i have found is indeed the RTT RESPONSE TIMES are indeed slower than my ipad3 and a iphone 4 . Whats concerning is that the wifi pickup range of this new iphone 5 is significantly less than those plus affected by simply holding the phone in my left hand where the thumb falls naturally on the antennae line near the volume buttons. It shows on the ping test that it stutters, response times hugely rise and i get packet data loss. . So enlighten me please. Is is normal the further you go from router the millisecond response times increase? The wifi symbol only has to lose one bar then it stutters with increased times. When one bar is on i get no response messages.

for your curiousity the ipad responds consitentley in around 2 ms but the new 5 takes 45 ms average in the same spot. Ipad and iphone 4 has hugely better reception in the far away tests. There is no obstruction to router.

DO you think there is a antenae hardware design issue or chip issue...?

Received new phone on Monday. My AES issues are gone. I'll have to repeat what has been said already "if you have AES issues replace your phone". I am curious if the replacements are new, someone else's return, etc. mine shipped from PA and came in a white box with no accessories. It doesn't really matter, it looked good and works good, just curious.

I am having the same issue on WiFi connectivity on a WPA2 secure netowork with my iPhone 5. I did a full restore yesterday and have the new version of iOS 6 software. The problem still exists. I have been working with a senior tech at Apple and my case is still open. Last night I went to McDonalds and was able to connect with no problem on their unsecured netork. Earlier yesterday I went to a friends house and could not get on his secure network with my phone. Unfortunenately I don't know any other person with an iPhone 5 that I can have try to get on my home internet. I hope Apple gets a fix before I have to get a replacement phone. Can't help but think this is a software issue.

I am really thankful for this thread. I had a phone that either wouldn't connect or the connection wouldn't last very long on WIFI with AES and it didn't work at all on TKIP. I was going to wait for a software update but this thread pursuaded me to get my hardware replaced and it works great now. As a cool sideaffect I also had the no push email issue and that has also been resolved. I have no idea how that could be related to the hardware but I'm not going to question it too much. Thanks again.

Got mine replaced yesterday and my wifi works perfectly now, although I still have an Apple-manufactured wifi chip. My old one even started working a bit better after a restore before going to the Apple store, but I didn't want to take any chances and already had the replacement set up.

I've updated the firmware of all my routers/accespoints. The problem stays. If I put security WPA2 on TKIP in stead of AES the problem seems solved. I've got one router who's now on AES and that still working.

But if it's the software, normally everybody with IOS 6 must have the problem?

I have the same issue with Wifi, disconnects.

After playing with my config on my Cisco access-point, setting-up to TKIP only without AES solve the issue!

On top of that, Pages with iCloud wasn't working since the begining and it start syncing with iCloud as soon as I change my AP settings.

Recently I have updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 6.0.2 and found that there was wifi connection problem in certain places, like office, copi tiam. But home wifi is ok.
Discovered if the wifi security type was using WPA2, then the connection is intermittent or super slow.
To resolve iPhone 5 6.0.2 wifi connection with WPA2 security type:
- The solution was to manually enter wifi connection
1. Goto Settings
2. Select Wi-Fi
3. Select Other... (instead of automatically select the predefine network)
4. Enter the network name (the Wifi connection name)
5. Select the security WPA2

It works!
