iphone 5 touchscreen not responsive

Have had the i5 since Friday morning and I keep noticing that the screen is not responsive some of the time. I will touch something 3-4 times before it registers my touch. This problem seem exaserbated by apps that don't make use of the entire screen.

However in Mail this morning, I was composing and email and everytime that I tried to click on the "TO" line that it would register my touch all the way up on the CANCEL button and bring up the save draft box.

These are issues that I never had with my 4 or 4S and I am a little frustrated by it since I paid $700 for this thing.

Is anyone else having a similar issue?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

This has been frustrating me as well and the issue finally became clear to me yesterday when my sister was trying out my 5 for the first time. She has used iPhones for years and just upgraded to a 4s (so she could share chargers with her family) said she had to hit buttons 2-3 times on my 5. Things on the edge of the screen are hard to press and I find myself tapping the screen really hard out of frustration to get something to work.

I restored ios6 from my old 3GS so I wonder if this is the source of my problem? My battery depletes at the rate of 10% an hour as well, so overall I'm pretty disappointed with this phone. I have no problem with returning this as many times as necessary to resolve these issues. Wiping it clean and reinstalling everything from scratch is NOT an option for me and should no be a solution to fix these issues.

And about the maps: it really is a poor substitute for google maps. Try this apple geeks: go back now and use ios5 and it will become painfully clear how inferior the new maps app is.

I really hope these are hardware issues and not inherent features of this phone because this would be a step backward by Apple. The large screen and thin chassis is nice Apple but take the time to get it right before rushing products to market to meet some internal goal designed to further inflate the stock price.

Im having the same problem, the P on the keyboard will not work for me as it is one the edge of the screen same with backspace key. Phone is constantly non responsive to unlocking and will allow me to open an app frequently but then not be able to do anything in the app. So frustrated. There is an apple store a few blocks from my office... I will probably bring it in to be replaced

UPDATE: the issue still persists (we never had any screen guards or cases on our unit. I have watched my wife press between the U and the I (literally in the middle of the two) and it will press to the right and hit the I, when she hits the letter I directly / squarely it will then either do nothing or it will hit the letter O - I can watch exactly where her finger goes and it registers the finger about .25" to the right of where she hits it... but it is worse than just that. Like other people here, I have had the screen just lock and do nothing; I press the settings icon (works fine); then settings open; then the screen wont' respond to me touching it anywhere... after the 5th plus try it finally starts scrolling around like normal, if I press the main button it takes me right back the home screen / touch starts working again... my wife says that she hasn't noticed it so extreme; she complains that everything on the edges of the screen is bad (useless / frustrating) (like others). mostly; she is hitting the wrong key all the time (which of course she is not).

we have also noticed zero improvement with battery life - still drains the heck out of it / barely makes it through a day of light use.

Here is my question: has anyone who has experienced this (or similar) returned it and has the new (replaced) one worked correctly? IE: is this just a bad unit; or is the entire line bad?

Disappointed is an understatement

It's not just a bad unit my friend. There are scores of people who are all experiencing something similar.

This is just down to poor manufacturing so as to meet the demand.

I, like so many other people, pre-ordered the phone with my network and right out of the box there were scratches and deep cuts to the aluminium bezel.

The screen responsiveness was pretty poor and overall, I've not been impressed.

I've read, and watched videos, of others who's phone screen seems to flex with the slightest touch.

Others have complained of discoloured images due to the colour white appearing almost cream, poor WiFi connectivity, the list goes on.

In the end I sent my phone back to my network and have now gone back to my iPhone 4.

Not 4S mind. Just the plain old vanilla 4.

I was thinking of waiting until around February or March before ordering another iPhone 5 but to be honest, I'm one of those people who's impressions are based on experience and for me, I think this phone will be the best that Apple will be able to provide for many years to come.

And I should add that their best has been pretty poor so far.

It may well be time for a complete change.

Not sure what I'd go for though.

Quoting Kelster, I am with you 100%,

"I have encountered the same issue, and everyone I talk to looks at me like I'm an alien and tells me it shouldn't be happening. It's the most noticeable on the facebook app where the little menu button is (with the three lines on the top left of the app). I have to jab at it like 3 times for it to register. Sometimes it works just fine though, I don't get it. "

I had same problem. hard rebooted a few times. seemed to work, went to bed, then woke up to my alarm, but couldn't slide it off since the screen wasn't recognizing my touch. hard rebooted twice, then went home and wiped it clean and reinstalled everything.

The next day I went to my carrier store (AT&T) and he went to the screen and double tapped the home button, then all the open apps at the bottom of the screen came up. He pressed and held one app, and they all came up like you could delete them. He said all the apps were running and the 5 has a hard time if you have a lot of apps running apparently. so he exed them out and I haven't had the problem again.

tbd I guess.

Yes, this is my first iPhone and I was surprised at how difficult it can be to change the setting on slider switches at the top of the display. I've discovered that if you aim for slightly below the slider it works perfectly...as if the touch screen is not calibrated properly. Try touching just below the slider...it always works, but can't be correct.

please tell us what the genius would say but i'm pretty sure it's related to charging. my 5s is fine and all when it's not plugged in but once it's connected the screen is so sensitive it's jumping all over the place—it's not usable. i have charged it using my old charger from my and from my iPad mini as well as the charger for this phone and i get the exact same reaction. can't type a decent message when it's hooked up. the problem with mine is that i purchased this in HK and i don't live there so i can't really warrantee this where i am since the warranty for the iphone is local.

if anyone has a solution.... please post.

it is disappointing to have this really. paying this much money on a phone and getting this when my original iphone, iphone 4 were both without any issue.

I have the same problem with my Iphone5 32G phone, and I noticed that you should hold the phone in your hand in order the screen to respond in other words..if it is in a cover, remove it from the cover, hold it with your hand and it will respond.

That's what happened with me.

Hope same thing with you guys...
