macbook pro retina efi update 1.0 keeps coming in updates after install

Hi guys,

I installed the above update a couple of days ago but it keeps coming up in my updates on the App Store. Anyone experiencing the same or anyuone understands why this is happening?

Thanks

Cheers Stathis,

I am getting quite frustrated about this one, I also just tried creating a new Admin Account and trying the Install and still the same also, it will not install and I cannot get the Boot Rom Version to go from

MBP101.00EE.B00 to

MBP101.00EE.B02

I was going to waste time contacting the Apple Support tonight, but seems a bit pointless as Mike has already been down that root, you have wasted time going to a so called genius, so what else is there left for us to do ?

Ok, I just called the support, They suggested I re-installed the OS on the Partition back to 10.8, then install the EFI update, then install the 10.8.2 OS X update as he said maybe the EFI update is not compatible with 10.8.2.

Problem straight away, I get the message about the MAC Disk not using a GUID Partition , No Idea what I have done, I simply got my MAC, followed all instructions, first thing I did after that was setup Bootcamp and installed Windows 7 as per instructions, and then setup Parallels to use the bootcamp. However I seem to have an untitled 200mb Partition that says its a Windows NTFS with a used 14mb which I have no idea what it is or what it is used for, I cannot seem to see any files on it at all ?

Support suggested I backup everything and yet again take it to a dealer to flatten and then re-install everything, what a carry on !

Not happy, why can't I simply just change the partition to what it wants now, I have no other issues, all other updates install fine, even the OS X Updates ?

Ok, I think I am getting to the root of the problem, I think this Untitled 209.7mb Drive is the EFI Partition, was just reading this post ;

http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/57597/how-to-fix-broken-efi-partition

But I'm not quite sure what I need to do still, but maybe I also have broken this EFI partition in Mountain Lion ?

Does this shed any light for anybody to help fix ?

If you can get to Recovery_HD by any means,

Run Disk Utility, select your Hard drive by Hardware-name, and click ( Repair Disk ).

This sometimes does a very low-level repair on the Partition Map. It is worth a try.

another idea is to install Mac OS X on an external drive and Set Stratup disk to boot from that, then run the downloaded updater-prep program and restart.

I just done a list of my drives and I think the problem for me is I do not have an EFI partition (see below), so this maybe also other people problem also, I think by somehow setting up bootcamp it has erased the EFI partition, I cannot remember it asking anything about it but can't be certain. so does anybody know how to get the EFI partition back and setup the GUID partition scheme without having to erase everything based on my hard drive setup below ?

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: FDisk_partition_scheme *751.3 GB disk0

1: Windows_NTFS 208.7 MB disk0s1

2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 550.0 GB disk0s2

3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3

4: Windows_NTFS BOOTCAMP 200.4 GB disk0s4

It finally updated for me. Here is what I did. Thanks to Grant Bennet-Alder

I booted to my recovery partition and selected diskutil. I first selected "macintosh HD" and did a disk repair and then permssions repair. After that I then selected the actually ssd drive above the partition and did a disk repair. it stated that it did something to my efi partition. I rebooted and then installed the update and finally it worked on reboot.

Good luck.

Not sure what else to do Grant, I restart the MAC, hold the Option Key down, then get the choice of 3 Disks, Mac HD, Bootcamp, or Recovery_HD. so I selected Recovery_HD, then select to continue in English, then get th menu options to install the OS X, Disk Utility etc, so already tried the install OS X but won't do it becuse of the GUID Partition Error, so go into Disk Utility as you have suggested, highlight the DISK HArdware name but repair disk is not enabled, I only get that option if I select the Mac HD partitiion. or the Disk1 partition things gves a verify option which I also have done. Pretty sure I am in the Recovery_HD option though....

JudgeyK,

Looking at your diskutil list results it does look like you may have a "different" partition scheme for your SSD. I'm not sure how you can proceed except maybe back tracking all of your changes to the mac drive. I would ensure clone backup of your mac content (I like carbon copy). For my bootcamp content I like Norton Ghost for cloning. At this time if you can't repair via the diskutil I would start first with deleting bootcamp partition to get your drive back to full mac.

Here is my disk util list command

/dev/disk0

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.3 GB disk0

1: EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1

2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 499.4 GB disk0s2

3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3

looking at your scheme it show an Fdisk scheme which could be related to the bootcamp. you might also pose this problem to the macrumors forum under windows on Mac. There are a lot of gurus who might be able to even return your partition to the GUID scheme.

Good luck.
