iOS 6 disables wi-fi on sleep mode - disappointing

Tested and confirmed that both disabling ask to join networks and auto proxy do not work.

This is a huge disappointment...we need a fix.

I have same problem here, please try reset network setting, this is work for me.

This case will problem if you update ios 6 over air (OTA).

No Problem update with itunes.

i tried resetting the network settings and it did not help. Anyone else?

I can confirm that I have resolved the issue.

I restored my iphone using itunes which put IOS 6 back on it and now it back to normal.

Wpd4356 was right its the over air update that has the issue.

I have also got my imessage to work as usual so now my phone has IOS 6 and works like before 🙂

when my iPhone 5 arrived i restored from my 4s backup. So in order to get my 5 working properly i need to restore it and then NOT use the backup from my old phone in order for the problem to not be carried over?

My 4S did it, and now my 5 does it.

I restored my phone using itunes and put IOS 6 back on and now the WIFI stays on when its asleep.

Wpd is was right, its updating over air that has the issue.

Also got imessage to work properly now so my phone is back to normal....🙂

Hi Dennis Phillips, try to clean restore firmware from itunes, don't restore from backup first.

Second option you can try Erase all content and settings and try the wifi connection.

I have 2 devices wifi problem update with OTA,

Another 2 devices no wifi problem on update from pc itunes.

i updated my iphone 4s using iTunes but the problem is here.

Also, i tried to wipe out all settings and recover a fresh iOS 6 installation but no way to fix the issue 😟

I have had this exact same problem with our iPhone 4, iPad 2 (updated to iOS 6 the day of release OTA) and since receiving our iPhone 5 two days later. This has been a huge problem for us as we depend on the wifi connectivity and immediately receiving notifications for email, iMessage, and Facetime. In fact, I even misplaced my iPhone 5 momentarily and, not having a good signal in our apt. I depended on the wifi connection to use Find My iPhone. Well, even though this feature always worked with our wifi-only devices before, the devices all came up as "disconnected." (Thankfully I found it between two sofa pillows.)

Apple must fix this issue. I now have three expensive devices that are less usable than my Gen 2 iPod Touch when it comes to receiving notifications over wifi.

If Apple does not fix this soon - like this week...they're about to lose two former loyal i-Device fans to Android crap. At least their phones will stay connected over wifi.

Fix this Apple! I'll give up any new iPhone 5 feature I have to be able to receive notifications over wifi while the devices are asleep again.

iPhones have always shut down the wifi connection when sleeping EXCEPT when the device is connected to a power source. This info has been repeated in many threads.

Thats not true at all, my 3gs, 4s and 5 did/do not shut off wifi when sleeping.

For the first time in the history of me owning an iphone, when i got ios 6 over air it disabled the wifi when sleeping, i quickly solved this by putting the OS on using itunes.

How is this for ironic! I recieved the email about your post on my locked, sleeping iphone that was in my pocket while walking round my house lol!!!!

LouisNeville - It does shut off wifi when sleeping, after a few minutes - IF NOT PLUGGED IN.
