I've not heard of this problem before but it does sound software related.

If no one else gets back to you it may be worth restoring the device back to factory settings to see if this resolves the problem.

If this doesnt work then you may need to contact Apple directly.

Thanks

Personally I would schedule an appointment at my nearest Apple store for someone to look into this for me, they will be able to see what the problem is and either advise on a solution or replace the handset.

This shouldnt be happening on a brand new phone.

I have the same issue. Flash doesn't work when you set photo flash to "ON". It also doesn't work with flashlight apps.

I can get it to work after power cycling the phone, and it seems to work for a couple of hours.

But then the same problem with the flash not working a day later. I've only had the phone for 3 days.

Can't tell if this is hardware issue or software issue. Yes, flash works after power cylce, but why isn't everyone having this issue then?

I called apple today as I HAD the same issue. He was familiar with this issue as it had happened when the 4s was released also and something firmware related messes up the flash timing relay or whatever the tech term is. This is what I was told to do and it has helped and fix the problem completely. Go to settings general reset and reset all settings. Then restore from back up to get everything back on your phone how u had it and mine has worked flawlessly since. Took less than 10 mins and now my new iphone 5 is perfect! :) goodluck hope this helps you all!

Same issue here, although it will work for a few minutes then stops then start again, even after a restart. Second iPhone I have is perfect (scuffs though and screen is bent up at one corner and is being replaced) with no flash issues and thats a release phone (came on the 21st) week 37 the second is a week 39 and has the flash issues. I am thinking its probably hardware related rather than software. 😟
