Categorizing iPhone 5 WiFi issues

I have noticed a lot of people responding to my original post and several other posts about WiFi connectivity issues but only about 1 in 3 are describing the situation I'm experiencing or the main topic situation. There seems to be a great number of inconsistencies regarding what problems users are experiencing so I'd like to try to get the problems categorized. Here is what I've seen from users so far:

  1. Iphone 5 connects to WiFi networks just fine but in WPA (any kind) or WEP networks there is no transmition of data or data drops after 30 seconds to 2 hours of regular use. turning off cellular data, WiFi, or flashing airplane mode on/off will regain data momentarily but same issue occurs. Unsecured networks transmit data just fine. Only solid solution I've seen is a phone replacement. (This is the issue I'm experiencing)

  2. iPhone 5 forgets the network it is connected to and the login information needs to be re-entered.

  3. iPhone 5 is experiencing extremely slow network speeds while using WiFi connections.

  4. iPhone 5 disables WiFi upon going to sleep mode.

  5. iPhone 5 is unable to connect to any WiFi network.

  6. iOS 6 WiFi is disabled

  7. iOS6 redirects to a login page when attempting to connect to the internet.(This was determined to be a problem on Apple's end and should be corrected.) http://www.bgr.com/2012/09/19/ios-6-wifi-problem-iphone-ipad-cant-connect/
  8. iPhone 5 is unable to detect the wireless network unless it is nearly on top of the router. Anything further than about 6 feet away will not detect the WiFi signal.

  9. iPhone 5 is confusing wireless data transferred as cellular data

Has anyone else seen any other issues or problems I haven't noted related to wireless connectivity issues?

OK, Spent almost 2 hours at the apple store today to get a replacement phone which they refused to do. I get home after all of their troubleshooting and am having the SAME problems. Now I have another appointment tomorrow. URRGHH this is frustrating. The gave me some BS about their in store restore being different than my 3 other restores both from backup and without backup that I did earlier in the day.

My problem is that iPhone 5 is experiencing extremely slow network speeds while using WiFi connections, except add in a few details:

- the extremely slow wifi is in relation to other devices on the network (often 10-20x as slow)

- the slow wifi is intermittent - sometimes it works just fine

- Often when the download speeds are slowed, the upload speed is unnaffected - aka .5Mbps down, 4.2Mbps upload

Unfortunately I haven't been able to convince the Apple store to exchange me for new ones because they can't demonstrate the problem in the store. They suggested I buy one of their routers because they were out of phones:

I bought the AirPort Express, set it up at home with my iPhone 5, and the speeds are still slow!!!!

You can solve your wifi issues pretty easily.

1) Go into Settings

2) Go into WiFi

3) Tap the blue arrow next to the wifi network you prefer to access

4) You will see various numbers and settings listed. Take a screen shot to capture that information for future reference if you need to reenter it later by simultaneously pressing the on/off button and the circle button. The screen shot will save to your Camera Roll.

5) Delete the numbers to the right of DSN. Enter 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. One of those should fix both wifi connectivity and download speed.

6) If this does not work, reenter the original DSN numbers you captured with the screen shot and set up a Genius Bar appointment.

Good luck! I did this fix and have had no problems with dropped signals and blazing fast speeds. The 8.8.8.8 works best with my network.

I am unable to connect to my home wifi (it says unable to join the network), however, all my other devices 2 laptops and ipod all work fine. When I go to my local convenience store I am able to connect to theirs. I called Apple support and the lady said maybe my internet service provider speeds are to slow for the IOS 6. I called my internet provider and they said that's not the issue and they it would cost me money for them to diagnose the problem.

My brand new iphone5 is unable to connect to my home wifi network. Here is my issue.

1) It can see my SSID.

2) I don't think it can recognize the passphrase in hex. How can you tell iphone5 that the passphrase is in hex? I have tried simple entry of characters, 0x in front, $ and \0x. Nothing is working.

I am always getting the "Unable to join network" error.

Every other device is able to connect.

geez, I thought windows was bad ... Apple does not even acknowledge the problem. Is Apple is turning out to be another windows??

For my Iphone 5

I can connect to web via 3g

I can connect to wifi where no password is required, ie no wpa or wep ...open networks

I can see my home wifi but when I enter password, iphone5 says "unable to connect"..picture below

Every other apple device I have can connect to this same network, Iphone 4 with ios 6, ipad 2 with ios 6, apple tv, mac book and windows laptops. It just a problem for my Iphone5.

So here is what I've tried (multiple time) and iphone5 will still not connect to wifi.

1. reset wifi router

2. Iphone5 reset network settings

3. Iphone5 reset all settings

4. iphone 5 entered wifi settings manually

So for me it cant be an IOS6 problem (even though one of my iphone4 is stuck in recovery mode loop after trying to update to ios 6... meeting Igenius tommorow to see if they can solve that) as other device with IOS6 connect to my wifi.

The iphone5 has been reset that often now it cant be a setting error, it seems like a hardware error. Anyway when I meet the igenius tommorow maybe they will have a solution.

I got this link from apple phone support, didnt help me but maybe it will help others.

iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

As for all the problems other are reporting above about holding a wifi connection, well I cant even connect.

I've read Iphone stores have no security settings on thier wifi so the only way I will see them replicate my problem is to use a secured network.

(my isp does not give access to the router they supply, so thats why I can't turn off wifi password requirement)User uploaded file
