    For my Iphone 5

I can connect to web via 3g

I can connect to wifi where no password is required, ie no wpa or wep networks

I can see my home wifi but when I enter password, iphone5 says "unable to connect"..picture below

Every other apple device I have can connect to this same network, Iphone 4 with ios 6, ipad 2 with ios 6, apple tv, mac book and windows laptops. It just a problem for my Iphone5.

So here is what I've tried (multiple time) and iphone5 will still not connect to wifi.

    1. reset wifi router

    2. Iphone5 reset network settings

    3. Iphone5 reset all settings

    4. iphone 5 entered wifi settings manually

So for me it cant be an IOS6 problem (even though one of my iphone4 is stuck in recovery mode loop after trying to update to ios 6... meeting Igenius tommorow to see if they can solve that) as other device with IOS6 connect to my wifi.

The iphone5 has been reset that often now it cant be a setting error, it seems like a hardware error. Anyway when I meet the igenius tommorow maybe they will have a solution.

I got this link from apple phone support, didnt help me but maybe it will help others.

iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points

As for all the problems other are reporting above about holding a wifi connection, well I cant even connect.

I've read Iphone stores have no security settings on thier wifi so the only way I will see them replicate my problem is to use a secured network.

(my isp does not give access to the router they supply, so thats why I can't turn off wifi password requirement)IMG_0002.PNG

This is the same problem I am having.  I've tried the same things that you did without success.  If you find a solution please let me know.  Thanks.

Ok, went to apple store, got a replacement iphone5 , got back to my wifi and it would still not connect.

So I had to now assume that 2 phones cant be faulty. So next option was my wifi router.

As I mentioned previously I do not have access to the router, because my ISP does not offer wifi support if we have access to it).

So I contacted my ISP support and had them change my security to WPA2. And now it works, wifi on iphone5.

So maybe the Iphone5 has some issue with connecting to standard WPA wifi network, if  problemn is related to IOS6 it only affects iphone5 (my iphone 4, ipads all  with IOS6 had no problem with wifi router setting).

It seems apparent that a fix is required by Apple for everyone.

PS Apple store also replaced my out of waranty iphone4 that was stuck in recovery mode after updating with IOS6. This cost me £119 for replacement phone....Yes I know thats a disgrace also, but I was in a serious rush to get out of the store and didnt have time to complain. I had to wait an extra 45 minutes from my booked appointement before apple genius met me due to the ammount of people in store. He was polite etc but did absoluteley nothing I had not done myself previosly.

PPS and the store didnt even have any power adapters left, no iphone5 covers.

Come on Apple get you act together---you have some great products, but its becoming clear to those of us who have supported your products before will do so less in future. Test properly before release.

Apple should really be congratulated in putting nano sim in phone, great idea, now I can only use the nano sim in IPHONE5--genius, and while Im at it Apple must be especially congratulated in changing the phone connector, I simply can not wait to buy new car charger, radio clock etc.

I tried this and the before and after WIFI speeds went from around 500 kbps to 5,500 kbps

But I was getting 6,100 kbps last night as I was changing all sorts of settings.

I am in Brisbane, Australia and recently upgraded to the iPhone5, while I gave my old 32GB iPhone4 to my wife and her old 16GB iPhone4 to my daughter. We are all with the main telco here - Telstra.

I am also a long term user of the app TuneIn Radio.

I have gone back and forth between my old iPhone4 and new iPhone5 and the iPhone5 is definitely slower with both WIFI and 3G and 4G. Even when I was in Sydney CBD with 4G, the TuneIn Radio was buffering every ten minutes or so, while the iPhone4 played uninterrupted.

I wonder if it's the hardware and if a new iPhone5 replacement will fix the problem or should I wait for a software update?

Just the reset worked. Didn't have to do anything manually, other than type in the password.

This fix worked perfectly for me, exactly as you detail it.

It looks like that my problem is No.8.

I bought 2 iPhones 5 32Gb in US Best Buy store.

Went back to my country and immediately upgraded iOS to 6.0.1.

And now one iPhone works good with my home Wi-Fi and another iPhone is able to join my Wi-Fi only when I am very close to my router.

Absolutely two same iPhones, but one is working good and another makes me crazy.

There is also Wi-Fi network of my neighbor with different settings and I have same problem with one iPhone in this network.

I tried already everything many times: reset, network reset, restore. Nothing of this hepls.

Now I am not able to go back to the store and to replace one faulty iPhone because I am very far from it. What solutions can be advised?

    **Forget it.  False alarm. ***

Hello,  I was on my second new iPhone 5 (6.02 iOS) when the same thing started happening to me - unable to connect to an access point at work.  Same started happening to the router at home.  But I was so  careful, changing things to my iphone 1 step at a time.  Then only thing that I changed over the last two days was signing in my Facebook account on the phone (not a big deal for me).

Here are the steps I took:

    -Removed Facebook app

-Deleted Facebook account from the Settings

I am able to connect to the wifi again.  Will edit the post if anything changes.

Mine seems to be #8. Can't detect the network in our office.

My coworker has a 4S and she can detect 2 of the networks fine. Another coworker has an IP5 that is not yet updated to 6.02 and he can see the networks also.

But my IP5 (6.02) can't. However, it can detect my home network and other hotspots fine. I wonder if it has something to do with router settings or the OS update.

I've already done network reset on the IP5 but still no luck.

Same here iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.2.........wifi is horrible doesn't detect wifi signals that the 4s or Samsung is picking up. I don't get how do you go backwards when putting out a new phone?...... I have had many iPhones and I never had this problem..... I guess we have to sell the iPhone 5 and go to 4s or better yet the samsung galaxy friends galaxy s3 is picking up all the wifi connections 6 of them.... And the iPhone 5 is picking up 1 or none..….....HOW DO YOU GO BACKWARDS WITH TECHNOLOGY IN 2013, specially when you have to spend more money than the previous model ............ Be warned IPhone 5 buyers I your looking to use the wifi with iPhone 5 DON'T BUY THE IPHONE 5...... Stick to the 4S or Samsung, Htc, Motorola, Nokia....... These phones cost less and you can actually use the Internet. By the way the battery life on my iPhone 5 is horrific....specially if I have on LTE.... Iphone 5 goes from 100% to 30% within one hour on LTE.

So pretty much if you like using the Internet, iPhone 5 will get you nowhere.

@Cesg25 - you just saved me $100 on a new router! This worked! I haven't been able to "successfully" connect to my home wifi router since I bought my iPhone 5 (yet all other iOS devices at home connect fine). It's rather decepive that the wifi symbol appears on my phone yet it was using cellular data the entire time. As a test, I turned my cellular data off and followed your instructions and now I'M CONNECTED TO WIFI (for real this time)! Thank you!! You really need to spread the word. So many frustrated people with the wrong idea of what's happening with their phone.

I am also having problems with "unable to join" I have multiple network's I join, I can join all of them with my iphone 4, my ipad 2, my macbook pro, my PC's. However the iphone 5 (1 week old) which was joining to all networks till I upgraded it to 6.1.2, now it can only joins to apple wifi base stations, (time capsule etc) or another iphone in hotspot mode.

It refuses to join networks being issued by

    BT homehub 3

    Virgin Superhub

    Sky router

    Netgear basestation

    Linksys router

    Cisco AP's

All of these routers have been upgraded to latest firmware.

I spoke to support who advided a complete facory reset of the phone and set up as new phone and try joining networks.. no joy with that either

I have tried all the suggestions above, setting DNS entries, setting proxy settings, resetting network settings and manually setting up connections, all to no avail.

Over the last few years I have become a big apple convert because their stuff just works... but I am starting to get frustrated with his now, there seems to be lots of people having wifi issues with iphone 5.
