iPhone 5 time and date issues

So, I activated my vzw iPhone5 Saturday. Very much enjoying it. Woke up yesterday and was very confused because my phone thought it was 8/26/12 and 30 minutes later than the actual time. I reset network settings and it self resolved...until this morning. I woke up and looked at my phone and had a melt down because my alarm never went off. I hurriedly got ready and looked at the microwave as I ran out, and it was 30 minutes earlier than my iPhone said.

My iPhone apparently is doing something weird and reverting to 8/26/12 + 30 minutes while I (and it) sleep. It throws off iMessage and I'm sure the rest of the date/time dependent apps, so I've turned off the automatic time setting for now, and its fine now (so far lol). But I would like to know what the real issue is if possible!?! Is it my phone? VZW? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance :0)

Hi everyone! On my iPhone 5 times strays whenever the phone is in standby mode more than 30-50 seconds. Auto-update of time off. When you charge your phone from your computer, or any activity on the phone - everything is fine, until the phone has not yet translate into standby button Sleep / Wake.

Excuse my English, I am writing from Russia.

It is NOT a Verizon problem - I have the same issue here in Canada with Fido.

It is NOT a 3G/4G problem as 1) when I sync it updates the time correcly and 2) I remove the sync feature and my time is lagging behind anyway.

I have iPhone 5 latest OS (6.1.4?)

Apple re-installed OS from scratch - same problem.

APPLE PEASE DO SOMETHING - NOW 46 PAGES OF DISCUSSION ON THIS. THIS IS ANOYING.

I know this discussion is old and hasn't been updated in a while. I had this problem a while back on my iPhone 5, here in the UK on the Vodafone UK network. Last week I had the issue happen again (on a different iPhone 5, still on Vodafone UK).

I popped down to the Apple Store yesterday and they said it would be a software issue whereby using the backup would mean transferring the problem from device to device. So I wiped everything and restored to factory settings. Which means I have lost most things from my handset.

I was confident he was right, but it seems the issue is still there. I will be visiting my local Vodafone store tomorrow for a new SIM and hopefully that will sort the problem out.

I must also point out, the problem is happening on iOS 7.0.2 and I updated to 7.0.3 and it's still happening.

Regards, Ben Hodder.

Hi HoddzDj - just wondering how you got on with changing your SIM?

I've had the same problem with my iPhone5 - pretty sure it started with ios7 - update to 7.0.3 didn't help. I'm on a Tesco Mobile Ireland SIM only plan (they don't offer iPhones). Tesco mobile deny any problem at their end and no one else (apart from Tesco mobile themselves) has replied to my post on their support forum in the past 2 weeks. Anyway had a couple of lengthy web chats with Apple support and tried all their suggestions eg toggling auto time zone, location services etc all to no avail. In order to eliminate the network being the source of the problem they suggested setting the time manually - I'd already tried this though. In fact I've also turned on airplane mode but no joy. In the end they suggested restoring as a new phone in case the error was being carried over in my backup (had previuosly tried restore from backup) - this didn't work either. Since restoring I've tried airplane mode, wifi off and cellular data off and the error still persists. Also checked to see if my wifi router timeserver is accurate - it is.Synciing with itunes doesn't work either.

I'm guessing that a small production run of iPhone5s have some problem keeping the correct time on ios7 - I'll put this theory to Apple tomorrow and post back afterwards. Interesting the last Apple support guy I'd talked to said he hadn't come across this problem before - will give a link to this thread tomorrow!

Hi digitaldr99.

Changing the SIM did not help at all. The issue is still happening and I too have tried all of those troubleshooting ideas in your post. Looking through your specs, you have a refurbished handset (as do I) which I guess could be something to do with it. However, mine is only a 16GB model.

Every person I have spoken to at Apple have not heard of this issue before, and I have been fobbed off with the usualy 'it's a software issue, restore the software (not from a backup) and it will be fine' but this hasn't helped at all.

I'd be interested to hear from you directly, my email is my username on these forums at gmail dot com, if you get time to drop me an emamil I have a few things you could try.

I had another webchat with Apple support today - after a few minutes I was put onto a senior adviser who arranged a call back from one of the engineers. Anyway the engineer called back right on time. He seemed to agree that it was not due to a wifi/carrier issue as it is still there in airplane mode/when the time was set manually. He asked me to take a few screenshots and videos and also to try to see if I could establish any pattern. He figured they might need to send me a replacement and take mine in for testing.

Anyway I have discovered something new - the phone keeps perfect time as long as it's awake (I disabled autolock) Once it's put to sleep it starts loosing time and does not autocorrect when woken - the set automatically switch needs to be toggled for it to pick up the right time again.

I have to say I was very impressed with Apple technical support - they escalted the problem very quickly and the engineer called me when they said he would and he gave me his extension too. I'll email him later this evening and keep you posted on my progress.
