iPhone 5 time and date issues

So, I activated my vzw iPhone5 Saturday. Very much enjoying it. Woke up yesterday and was very confused because my phone thought it was 8/26/12 and 30 minutes later than the actual time. I reset network settings and it self resolved...until this morning. I woke up and looked at my phone and had a melt down because my alarm never went off. I hurriedly got ready and looked at the microwave as I ran out, and it was 30 minutes earlier than my iPhone said.

My iPhone apparently is doing something weird and reverting to 8/26/12 + 30 minutes while I (and it) sleep. It throws off iMessage and I'm sure the rest of the date/time dependent apps, so I've turned off the automatic time setting for now, and its fine now (so far lol). But I would like to know what the real issue is if possible!?! Is it my phone? VZW? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance :0)

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. I spent a few hours on the phone with tech yesterday and tried a few more trouble shooting ideas which included me having to reset my phone to factory defaults...with no success unfortunately. (these were in addition to the suggestions I rec'd from the community's post and tried myself).

My iPhone 5c started losing time this week. The clock runs slow. When I turn it off and back on, it corrects to the right time. However, it will randomly start losing time again. Last night I had it plugged in to recharge and the clock lost time again. Since I use it as my alarm clock, I overslept. I am going to try your suggestion about changing name of phone. Also have tried doing the other suggestions listed in this thread. Will have to wait to see if problem continues.

I have the same problem still. I have tried everything except dissemble. It's obvious this has been a problem for two years now. Why isn't there a fix for this bug with the 5's? It is messing up my iMessaging as well as snapchat. Also if my WiFi is on and connected to a router, the phone will just switch between cellular data and the WiFi data. I am going to set up an appointment at the Apple Store, hopefully they will know something.

Another option that worked for me are these.

  • Simply turning “Set Automatically” to OFFthen back ON.
  • Going to Utilities > Clock and removing the World clocks, then switch the phone off and on again.
  • Hard rebooting the phone by holding down the home and on / off button at the same time (until the Apple logo appears).
  • OR
  • Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
  • Turn the “Set Automatically” option to OFF
  • Plug the phone into your computer and sync it using iTunes.
  • Go back to the Date & Time options page and switch “Set Automatically” back to ON.

My iPhone 5c was working perfectly until I upgraded to IOS 8.1.2. 😟 My wife has the same phone and luckily I saw my time issue quickly after updating so I did NOT update hers. Her phone is still running 8.1 and she has NO issues with time.

I removed/reinserted my SIM card on Saturday...it immediately picked up the correct time and was good for about 4 hours.

I think in my case, if it goes to sleep (screen goes blank) it will lose time, even if the time has been set manually.

Leaving the display on all the time is a battery drain though.

I am not liking my first experience with iPhones. I want my Android back. Luckily I saved my wrist watch.

Hey gmjones.

I had this issue and tried a million things. Finally I tried a combo of trying to turn on bluetooth. Then turning on and off "Set Automatically" as per what anino35 was saying a few posts previous. I started with the first option anino35 advised, then the second, but somewhere in between I was trying to turn on bluetooth, and at some point I also did a hard reboot. Finally the clock came good. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I think if you try a million combos of this then you might happen across the right trick. My system seemed to freak out when I put a Cambodian SIM in my Australian phone, after having recently put in a Thai SIM.

I really hope this helps mate. Keep at it - I am sure you will fix it.
