Apple TV w/5.1 update Airplay issue

okay restoring the software on ATV3 did not solve the problem 😟

Said reset- not restore- and was in refrence to original post of selcting a speaker and audio still coming from TV, not selected speaker, for music. This happened to me after updating, and reseting fixed it so music would come from selected speaker, not TV.

Airplay from ATV for me is still limited to music and music videos. I cannot airplay audio from appletv to other speakers for movies.

😁 Must we go and set all our movies to "music video" now in order to use AirPlay speakers on the ATV?

I am hoping this is an oversight by apple- the fact that it works with music videos excludes a technical limitation, wouldnt be surprised to see all audio enabled in next update.

I am astounded that this latest update doesn't include audio from movies and netflix to airport express connected speakers. really?.............

it worked fine with audio from a movie via netfix to my zeppelin air with a previous beta version of the iOS 5.1 on ATV3. Audio and video sync was a 100%

It's really stupid. Makes Airplay kind of pointless. Major use case. Apparently it worked in betas.

I have the same problem.

If I try to send audio to Express Airport from iTunes (Mac), it works but if I want to send audio from movie or music though AppleTV 5.1 to Express Airport : there is no sound.

It seems working ONLY with music FROM AppleTV !

Wow, this is really subversive marketing on Apple's part. I've been wanting to get audio out of my flatscrren for a long time--too cheap to buy a proper home audio setup (plus I'm only interested in 2.1, until I get bored with that).

There was no language on any of the AirPlay-branded stuff for iOS 6 or AppleTV 5.1 that would have kept me from thinking this was possible--to get ALL audio from the Apple TV to another AirPlay device.

I lurked on Craigslist for days after realizing my version 1 AirportExpress wouldn't support this function. I found a new Base Station mini, as it were, only to find that it wouldn't play audio from video either (however, I did get it still sealed for $85). Which led me here. Why the heck would I want to stream music from my iTunes library from Apple TV to an AirPort Express, which is also connected to my Macs? I know, I know, Match. It's not worth making that a marketing point and making people angry when they realize what this feature actually is.

Steve would have never allowed this. This is Bozo-level stuff.

UPDATE: As I was typing this, I got suspicious. I plugged my gen 1 Airport Express back in and lo and behold it works fine for the music-only streaming function of AppleTV 5.1, which is counter to info I found elsewhere saying the gen 1 was a no go. Bozo-level! I bought this 2012 Airport Express for NOTHING.

Anyone still have the firmware for the beta that allows AppleTV to stream audio from movies ?

Well said. Bozo level. I can only think there is some licensing issue but even that doesn't make sense. That Pioneer speaker with Airplay sounded like a million bucks but I'm not going to download all my content to my iMac and change it Music Video just to make that $400 airplay speaker work with the restrictions of the Apple TV audio out. I wish this would get more flack so they would change it to work as a person would expect. The instructions for that Pioneer Airplay speaker unfortunately even say "does not work with movie audio" but only once you crack open the package. And, perhaps I'm being muleheaded but I really don't want to buy a component speaker system and have dangling cords in my living room. This little Airplay speaker promised to be a one sound output device for the many iDevices and Macs in my house -- I would have evangelized this and bought them for family members if it worked as intended.

Are you saying the streaming audio from a movie to an airplay speaker worked in previous firmvare for latest appleTV?

I mean what is the version where it worked with audio from movies, and in what version did it stop working?

So far, no version will allow audio from the movie to stream to the AirPlay speakers.

But both runedalsgaard and wsstefan suggest that there has been possible?
