iPhone 5 bad call voice quality

Got the new iPhone 5 and have bad phone call quality. The recipient of the call seems to be able to hear me ok, but their voice either isn't there or drops out or sounds grainy like when you have bad cell reception. Many times, the calls have just not connected. I know that that my cell reception and the recipients cell reception were excellent. This has occured when calling other cell phones, land lines, and toll free numbers. Anyone else having this issue? Have an appointment at Apple tomorrow morning to see what they think.

I have got the same problem here.

Just bought my iPhone 5 two weaks ago and some calls are very bad quality, I do not understand a word of what the people on the other site of the phone is saying. The weird thing is that it does not happen with all the calls.

The iPhone 5 is great, also paid a lot of money for it so I want to experience high quality voice calls all the time.

In need off an update! ASAP Please!

We're having voice quality issues with headsets. I've tried about 5 different kinds (Bluetooth, Apple, other brand wired) and all have the same problem...volume fluctuations on the receiving end. All of these headsets have noise canceling mics. Swapped a phone several times.

* All same characteristic problem with 7 different iPhone 5 (all AT&T)

* Headsets have noise canceling mics

* Receiver hears voice volume fluctuations

* Voice quality is fine without a headset

Does anyone have an suggestions? I was in touch with Apple about this and while they submitted my report, I haven't heard a peep from them in 2 weeks.

Please let us know what they say at the apple store! I have a 64gb white AT&T phone and am having this same problem. A coworker of mine has the 16gb in black with Verizon. This tells me that it is widespread and has nothing to do with your network or the storage. Apple could have a SERIOUS problem on their hands if this cannot be fixed with a software update... Thx!

I'm in Australia and have had my iph5 about month. Every person I speak to complains they can't hear me. I've been told it sounds like my head is in a bucket. Everyone says my voice sounds muffled. I was putting it down to the fact I'm with Vodafone and barely have more than one or two bars. However today, the expander unit they gave me finally started working today and in the home my phone has jumped from 1 bar to 4/5. Despite this though, the voice quality is still very poor. I ended up googling it tonight and am surprised others are having the same complaint...a lot with the person they are listening to, but for me it's those listening to me. Not sure what to do?

Well i dont think its any operator problem

Even while listening the music , untill upu raise the volume to max , u cant feel u r listening anything

Sound till 4-5 bars are neglasible , never had this volume issue with any of my iphone 3 or 4 but this iphone 5

Volume really ***** , while talking on comunication is not clear even if i raise volume

To max , apple has misse the trick , i donno wht kind of people tested this product before they launched .

And if this the problem with all iphones then whats the point of even asking for replacement ,?????

Its clearly the fault in iphone5 , not sure they gonna fix it.

Totally disappointed with voice system of iphone 5 , but yes its really fast , but its a phone if we ant even talk

Properly then whats the point???? I didnt buy it to play games only ???

1) I have been told it sounds like "I am talking underwater".

2) There is a serious echo.

3) I can hear the other person but they can't hear me.

4) The other person can hear me, but I can't hear them.

5) It doesn't matter what network they are on. I am on ATT

6) It only happens 20% of the time.

7) I have way more dropped calls then my iPhone 4S.

Looking for an update or fix.

I have this problem as well.

Apple store "genius" could not reproduce the issue, so no replacement. I was not happy but now I'm wondering if they know they have an issue and don't want to be swapping out units when they think it's a SW issue.

One thing (no, I didn't go through the entire thread, so if someone else already brought this up, my bad) - if I use a headset the audio quality is excellent. This is very repeatable.

Unfortunately, it brings up another issue with iOS6 where the phone doesn't realize that the headset has been taken out and therefore most alerts and other sounds aren't heard.

Not good, expecting a fix here as well.

I have the same problem as well. Iphone 5 16gb with Vodafone in the UK. After several calls and trips to the vodafone shop, Vodafone have extended their exchange policy to 21 working days.

I picked up my new iphone 5 today and still experiencing the same poor quality of calls with full signal. I'm so disappointed with Apple and the lack of support they are providing their customers.

Today i asked for returning my iPhone as i'm in a 14day period where i can return my online purchased iPhone. I'm very sorry because i really love iOS and the way everthing works. Except if the main featur of a telephone, making phone calls, works so bad i have no other choice as return my iPhone 5. For a phone which costs more than € 800,- it is simply unacceptable to not work properly on every carrier.

Besides i can't unterstand review where the battery is getting praised. I think battery is poor average.

So, bad voice quality on some carriers (well, unfortunately on that one i use), crappy noise cancellation via new earpods (on lowest volume a voice call is impossible) and Apple blaming (via hotline) anyone else except itselfe. Sorry. I'll return and wait for the Nexus 4 to be available in my country.

I think i'll really miss iOS though having € 500,- more on my bank account and a good voice call quality is worth the trade off with Android.
