iPhone 5 bad call voice quality

Spincast: also affecting me on Vodafone uk. If this a carrier problem, then they're all doing something wrong. Highly doubtful. How often does it happen for you? For me it's about 60/40 good/bad so far.

In my case, not every call has had this problem. However, I'd guess approximately half of my calls have been of such poor quality the call had to be ended. It also seems to be "all or nothing" as each call is either affected or it isn't.

Agree all or nothing, can only make out a couple of words. Call ended every time.

Hi iam having the exact same problem but in germany with T-mobile. Never had this kind of a problem with any of my old iphones . Original / 3G / 4... Its getting really frustrating. In some german forums you are hearing about this more often right now. Hope there will be a solution since it called i PHONE and a phone is there for calling...

In my opionion this problem is software related since carrier service is pretty much ok !

I can hear the person on the other end of the call but they can't hear me unless I turn on the speaker. Is this a setting problem, carrier problem or a bad phone?

not 100% sure but it could be a broken mircophone as a friend had it on his 4S !

Trish that sounds different from what has been described in this thread. Would hazard a guess at faulty handset for you.

I agree with benfromholyhead, that sounds like an altogether different problem related to your mic/handset. Has anyone been to the Genius Bar with this problem. It appears to be a very specific issue affecting relatively few users and can occur with any carrier in various countries.

it could have something todo with wifi/lte bandwidth but its just a guess. I think more people have that than you think ! There are still tons of phones shipping right now so we will see.

BTW: was at our locas apple store today to get an iphone for my girlfriend...showed that problem to the guy , he put out his 5 out of the pocket and said he knows but they dont know why but i could arrange a meeting a genious bar...probably gonna do that if their wont we news

Seems to be pretty much all of the time. I rarely have full bars which is also odd. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, in which Verizon is supposed to be great. I have one bar in my house, so Verizon is sending me a network extender (femtocell) which will definitely help with signal. Maybe it will help with voice quality as well.

It's all so odd, because all of the reviews laud the iphone with claims of superb voice quality (better than previous iphones or Android devices). Not so much in my case. Would be fantastic if it's a fixable software issue (probably too much to hope for). At best it might be a limited hardware issue, at worst a design issue.

Anyone know if the iPhone5 will support VoLTE?

I have very good signal I was right next to a mast on one occasion I don't thing signal strength is the issue.

1 bar, 2 bars, full bars- this happens to me regardless of signal strength.

yop same here. But regardless my signal strenght is very unstable compared to my old iphone.

I had 4 bars and experienced the exact same problems. I don't think it is a network/signal issue, but possible a software or hardware issue. It's affecting multiple phone carriers in the US & Europe.

@funk daddy I believe OP had his phone replaced at apple store but issue persisted.
