Can my Combo-drive read Dual-Layer DVDs?

A Combo drive is a CD burner and a DVD player, I don't see why it wouldn't play DL DVD's from other computers that burned them. If they play in a DVD player, chances are they will work in the Combo drive.

Shouldn't be a problem at all, even the original DVD players can handle dual-layer DVDs.

FYI, the iLife '06 DVD is dual-layer, and I've yet to hear of a Mac it doesn't work in.

I have been burning DL DVDs from another Mac for quite some time now. Never had any problems with the DVDs being unreadable on my PowerBooks except when there was a bad batch of discs, which then meant only the Mac that burned the disc could read it.

FYI, all the movie DVDs you've bought and been watching are dual layer DVDs. It's only been more recently that consumers have had access to hardware that could make them but we've always been able to read them, from the first available DVD drive.

The DVD packaging actually specifies the format of the disc(s) : single-sided, dual-layer; double-sided, single-layer, etc.
