So I finaly recieved a response back from iTunes support on weather or not I would get a good copie of The Avengers, and here is what they had to say:
"This is ***** from iTunes Store Customer Support. You are most welcome. I understand that you wanted to have a movie that works.

Looks like basicly the circle is complete. 😕 I have been sent back to Apple Care, for techincal Advise. Ugh...
The issue has been fixed. Just a simple redownload from the cloud is needed. Make sure you delete the copy in the itunes library before redownloading. Heres the email I got today:
Dear iTunes Customer,
Thank you for downloading the movie The Avengers. Unfortunately, the movie you received may have had issues with the subtitles. We have corrected the problem and a new copy is available to download, free of charge. To receive the new version, please re-download the title from iTunes.
Before downloading the new version, remove the current version:
1) Open iTunes on your computer.
2) Click on your Movies library.
3) Click the movie to select it, and press the Delete key.
4) Click Delete Movie and then click Move to Trash.
To download the new version:
1) Sign into the iTunes Store.
2) Click Purchased on the right side in the iTunes Store under the QUICK LINKS section.
3) Click on Movies and select the movie you want to download.
4) Click the Cloud download icon to download the movie.
You will now have an updated version of the movie in your Movies Library.
To delete and download the movie from other devices, seehttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.
Sincerely,

I can confirm that I'm having the same issue with the following films...
In other words, every single film I've bought from iTunes in the last couple weeks. Those Blu-rays are starting to look good...
iTunes Support of course just gave me the normal "Canned" response of send an email in and wait for iTunes to contact you. :-/ Really upset about this seeing as I just spent 20 dollars! Looks like I am one of only a handfull of people reporting this issue, so if your having it, please contact Apple and let them know, so this will be fixed.
I'm surprised the others didn't get told the same. That number is for U.S. iPod, Mac and iPad technical support (all meaning hardware). There is no telephone support for hte iTunes Store. On the other hand unless you're dying of hunger because your budgeting is so tight you can't wait a day or so I'd just go with the online support. They are usually reasonable where there is a clear problem with one of their items.
Worked like a charm for me. I called the number said iTunes when it asked what I was having a problem with. Then said iPad for the device I was having a problem on. When I spoke to a human I told him my issues with Prometheus and the avengers. He then asked what I would like him to do. And I said if ît can be fixed fine otherwise I would like my money back so I could buy the blu rays. He then put me on hold to go into messages with the higher ups. I was on hold for about 10 min but he kept checking in to make sure I was still there. Then when he was done talking he said there was no way to fix it so they are crediting my account $35 in 3-4 days. Great service, no complaints there. Now I just have two slightly faulty movies for free
Anytime there was a text popup like the location in Scotland and when the ship was introduced the text is in Spanish not English. And if something in English popped up on a screen a Spanish translation pops up. The language is set to English and subtitles are off. Still happens. There's a discussion on here about it. I'm not the only on
Sorry to hear that. I'd give it another try. It must depend on who you talk to. The person I was connected to (American BTW) was extremely helpful. How loyal to apple are you? I have 3 apple devices registered in my name. This could have affected how generous they were
What serial number did you give ? I used my iPhone.
Anyway. *****. I also saw the reviews on the App Store randomly other people reporting the double subtitles.
Anyone know ETA from expresslane for replies ?
I just read the Prometheus thread, didn't even realize there were suppose to be subtitles in scenes that are missing from my copy. So first no subtitles on one movie, then too many on another. What is wrong with the people at iTunes?
Yeah really sorry to hear they gave you the old "Contact Express Lane". I agree, I think it all has to do with who you spoke with and how adimint you are. I just spent two hours on the phone. The most definitely refunded my money and told me pretty much sorry and there was nothing they could do. Phone advisor did contact iTunes Support for me and verify that I would get a refund. Like I said though, spent two hours on the phone. 😠Yeah Apple really dropped the ball on this one.
I used my iPad serial number seeing as that's where I downloaded the movies. Also be sure to mention other movies you've downloaded are fine and its not a setting that needs to be changed. Tell them you read a thread where other people are having the same issue. So that they know that you know it's not an isolated incident. May make them more keen on giving you back your money
Adamsr17 is a hundred percent correct. They told me that they needed to know about this because I was seriously like the first person to report it. We went through every movie I have ever gotten from iTunes and no one had this issue. So it is most definitely specific to this movie. I simply put it that I spent over 20 dollars for a movie that is not working properly. From what I gathered, they do want more people to report this because it may become a known issue. The advisor most definitely sighted this thread in his notes, so I would say give them the full url so they can see it for them selves. Good luck. Like I said, took me two hours.
You'd have to be blind to miss the issue in The Avengers but the Spanish in Prometheus could slip by. I imagine it isn't happening to everyone or most people deal with it and/or don't know how to use tech support.
I do wonder though if iTunes contacts different servers for the same movie and one of those servers has faulty files. It's the only way I could see it not affecting everyone. although I'm no computer engineer so idk how any of that works. I just tap a screen and 30 minutes later I can watch a movie.
Sorry to hear it took you so long. It took me roughly 20 minutes from the time I dialed the number to thanking the customer service rep for getting me my money back. I guess it all depends on what time you call and who you speak to
