MLB.tv not working after update to 5.1

Since updating to 5.1 yesterday, MLB.tv refuses to launch. I get "Accessing MLB.TV" with a spinning wheel for a while, then "MLB.TV is unavailable. Try again later." I can access it just fine on my Roku, so I know it isn't down. I've tried restarting, and that hasn't helped. Anyone else seeing this?

I'm in the UK. After the update, couldn't do Netflix searches, YouTube, MLB, Vimeo & WSJ wouldn't work.

Netflix would play recent and new release stuff.

Swapped to wireless, all OK.

I thought it may have been Network related, so I tried different DNS etc. Never thought it could have been Ethernet connection causing the problem.

***** tbh. Mr Apple, please fix it.

Hi Pudders,

Have similiar situation.😐

The Netflix service is set up on the computer perfectly. Netflix works great on the computer and on another ATV 2nd Gen that had not been updated.

I had deactivated all the devices from my netflix account and reactivated them again. The updated ATV 3 gen just refused to log on and did not play returning to the menu main page on ATV after the spinning wheel displayed for about 3 minutes.

I am grieving as my ATV has refused streaming and logging on after the 5.1 update and also the updated netflix iphone application has also failed me.

A second back up ATV and older generation 2 is still working because no update has been applied. Also another 2nd iphone with a non updated application is still working.

The WiFi and Ethernet for me make no difference. It still won't work. I have written to Roy

Hi,

Same here since the update, most of the Apple tv functions are not working properly...No MLB.TV, slow performace on getting the info about my favorites podcasts, slow access to Netflix, Airplay not working properly from my iphone 4s.

What's going in on?..everything was working fine before this crazy update...sure Wifi is a good option but my Apple TV is far from the wireless router, so this is not a valid option for me.

Please Apple fix this ASAP and don't become another microsoft, pc kind of company....where you need to download patches and fixes almost everty week.

Ditto here, email sent to Roy. Everything works on wifi except that AirPlay mirroring is dead slow on my ipad2. When I switch to Ethernet it becomes a gamble as to what will and will not work. Either way, whatever features stop working via Ethernet always work via wifi. Another oddity...when on Ethernet, some Internet radio stations work while others don't, and the ones that don't, DO work via wifi. SNAFU! So frustrated!! Come on Apple!

Equivalent situation here in Australia. Upgraded ATV with latest update as prompted and then ATV won't access itunes. Previews work, network test even works (but not always), but as soon as you try to rent a movie or view your music library it fails to connect to itunes - can't connect to server. Pulling out the ethernet cable it will connect to my network via wifi and all is back to 'normal' and content accessed withouth issue.

I've never used ATV over Wifi (and don't want to) and never had a problem with ethernet until now. It is very clear this is an issue with the latest ATV update. My whole house is wired with Cat 6 so we essentially don't use wifi, except occasionally for iPad. I have up to five macs, plus printers and storage devices using the network at one time at home without issue. Each device on the network has a static IP address, including the ATV, and this has worked perfectly for many months until the update. Its pretty robust for a home network. I now have all devices connecting via ethernet, except the ATV, which connects to the same router via wifi. Nice that its working, but it took a long time to get there and its a workaround I don't want to persist with.

I was just about ready to throw away ATV after two nights of trying to rent a movie, in between times getting an email from itunes confirming my credit card had been charged for the movie, even though I couldn't download it (- a nice touch). Before realising it was an issue with ATV and ethernet i'd been through resetting, restoring, and changing all conceivably relevant settings on ATV and router, only to find a couple of threads tonight about it being an ethernet issue with the update. I can now actually watch the movie tonight, but what an absolutely fundamental stuff up when so many people can't use a device designed for high bandwidth content over their gigabit ethernet LANs and need to rely on wifi (only of course after taking hours to work out they could get it to work that way as a workaround).

I'm one of the true believers Mr Apple, I want to belive and promote, but this is really disappointing. There needs to be better quality assurance on releases like this. We all know its a complex world, but when your brand is built on having stuff that 'just works', it needs to.

Hopefully some lessons in this and we can get good support and a new update and better performance going forward in terms fo quality assurance around updates.

Good luck!

Roy,

I will send you the requested info about my router, etc. after I do this post. Before ATV software update, everything works great wireless or ethernet. After software update, everything works when wireless. The only 2 things not working on ethernet after update are: MLB won't connect and Photo Stream won't connect. When I switch to wireless, then my Photo Stream photos appear and MLB works. In my troubleshooting efforts, I bypassed my router completely and ran ethernet directly from my modem to ATV and everthing works. So, for all you MLB folks, at least today, a temporary solution for during the ball games, try direct ethernet from modem to ATV. Obviously not an acceptable long term solution. So, it is clearly something with the software update and the wired ethernet portion of my Linksys WRT54G v.2 wireless router with current firmware update v4.21.5. (Updating router firmware did not help.) So, in summary, before ATV software update, everything great wired or wireless. After software update, when wired ethernet, MLB and Photo Stream don't work. Please hurry with the fix. Until then, my apple store told me to bring mine back and they would give me a new one with the old version software. Seems like if many, many of us did this, it would be very expensive to Apple. I truly am looking forward to watching how and when this gets fixed.

Update 5.1.1 has still not fixed MLB working over Ethernet..

Been no update from Apple in this thread since Roy asked for details... this is really bad customer service especially when this is the only reason I purchased an Apple TV (3rd gen) so as I could watch MLB via Ethernet.

Luckily I have a 2nd Apple TV (3rd Gen) and have not updated it at all as this still works on Ethernet... so obvioulsy an issue if one device fails after an update and the other doesn't!

Can someone who moderates thses boards at least make some kind of comment/update.
