raw and D600 Nikon

We are users here, not Apple or Nikon. We do not know. Camera manufacturers keep the RAW processing algorithms secret, so folks like Apple and Adobe have to sort of reverse engineer to get an approximation of what Nikon is up to.

However the D600 is a very major new camera and odds are it should not be too long.

Good luck! I too may own one before the RAW conversion is available...

In any event I suggest also owning Nikon NX2 which to my eyes/brain invariably does the very best job on converting Nikon NEF files. I normally use Aperture for the workflow but for a really special image I will convert the RAW file using NX2.

Sorry, but the Nikon D600 is neither on the list of cameras supported by Aperture nor by MacOS X Mt. Lion:

If, and when, this will change, we cannot know. This is a User-to-User forum. You are not talking to Apple.

Yikes!!! Who would have thought this would be a problem? Not naive me! I now have 395 images from a shoot today that Aperture can't handle. Guess I'll have to figure out some other way to process them! Major bummer!

Look at the software that came with your camera. You should be able to convert the images to a format that Aperture can import, for example tiff.

Great you spend money on a brand new Camera and the flagship photo processing software from Apple doesn't recognise the files..... it seems that as Apple gets bigger it gets more like Microsoft and forgets it's users....

Not impressed..the camera has been out for 2 weeks and no support in Aperture....come on Apple get your act together..

Folks - keep in mind that it's normal for both Adobe and Apple to take a month or so to provide updates to support new camera models. Unbunch your panties and give 'em time to do their jobs. You might want to check to see if Adobe's DNG converter can convert the D600 NEF files to DNG (which Aperture does support). I had to do this for a month when I first got my D7000. It's not that big of a deal.

Cmon, people, stop b!@#$% and just use ViewNX2 that came with your D600 to convert from RAW to TIFF and than use your Aperture or LR or whatever....

Apparently Adobe Lightroom 4.2 now supports the D600. Aperture is sure to follow not to much later. Remember to shoot in JPEG and RAW so you can use the JPEG for now and the RAW later - of course you can convert in the Nikon software that comes with your camera right now.

Latest Adobe DNG converter (7.2) DOES indeed convert NEF pictures coming from a D600.

Head up to Adobe's website and download the app.

You'll only miss the focus information (focus distance and focus sensors used), but you'll be able to work with raw and not rely on jpg only!

RAW support for the D600 is released today. Get it from the App Store.
