ipad2 keeps disconnecting from wifi connection after iO6 update

my ipad2's wifi connection works perfectly and i never experienced being disconnected from my wifi connection until the iO6 update!

i have tried all the solutions posted in this forum, from resetting my ipad, my network settings, turn on/off, to resetting my router, to reconfiguring my router's security settings, to hard resetting my ipad2, to name it all, i did all of that.

...still, whenever i try to connect to my wifi connection, it disconnects after a few seconds only!

APPLE, please... release the fix. i am really regretting updating to iO6.

i never should have assumed that all your products are perfect...

Outrageous response!

This issue is introduced when users updated to ios6.

It occurs across a range of routers, mine is a BT home hub.

Are you suggesting all our routers don't implement a protocol feature correctly and the iPad is not at fault?

You clearly have no hardware experience.

My laptop is still working perfectly, it must not use this "broken" WLAN feature.

Or my desktop, ip tv, ip bluray for that matter...

All working perfectly...

Since updating to ios6, the iPad WLAN connection continuously drops out when streaming.

Users browsing may not notice or experience any ill effect.

Many users will just "try again" or blame their provider.

I suggest this issue is bigger than you are prepared to admit.

I got this and it helps on solving the disconnecting wifi problem. I copy and paste here and hope it works to any of you too.

This is a duplicate of a reply I posted in another thread, as well as over at ipadforums.net, but the thread here I've posted to is 61 pages long and it may get lost.

Hopefully this helps someone else. I have posts in other threads about my issues connecting to wi-fi at home.

I logged in to my router, and at first just disabled the security. The iPad2 connected to the internet, no problem. It was using WEP, and I understand WPA2 is supposed to be more secure so re-enabled security with that instead.

Entered the new password into the iPad, and bingo! Problem solved. Apparently the iPad doesn't like WEP security. No matter what I did when the WEP security was enabled it would not connect nor would it hold the proper IP address.

I've already had it connect to 2 different public wi-fi spots so for now all is good.

What I have not done yet is upgrade the firmware - right now it's on 4.3.3, though iTunes has already indicated 4.3.5 is available. I'm ascared to update it now, LOL.

I have this question too (0)

Hmmm. I wonder if I disable wifi security completely... what could possibly go wrong?

Heh.

So, we have two identical iPad2's in the house. (Well, one is white, one is black). One of them started disconnecting from our router. We replaced the router. That didn't fix it. They are configured identically. It's a new router from a reputable manufacturer (linksys), with newest firmware, with all updates applied to the iPads. One of them disconnects frequently, the other doesn't.

Somehow I doubt that it's because one ipad is somehow revealing inadequacies in the router manufacturer's wifi support.

Anyway, I will try switching from WPA2 and WEP and monkeying around like that Thanks, Mark. But otherwise I am flummoxed. And yes, "ask to join networks" is enabled, for whatever good that would do. I foresee sending it to Apple in the near future, which is incredibly annoying to think about for something that worked prior to ios6.

Well, ok then ... set it for no security on the 5ghz band, tell it to not broadcast its name so no one else can see it ... and now, it seems like the black ipad is hanging on to its connection. Fingers crossed.

Not thrilled about the no security, but if it's on a network not broadcasting its SSID, maybe I feel OK about it. Not that many devices use 5ghz wifi anyway, I think.

I was having the same problem with iPad 3 and the wireless router in my office. The solution was to upgrade the Linksys router firmware. It is a relatively simple process - the most recent firmware is available at the Linksys support website. After updating the firmware, the iPad stays connected to the wifi router all the time, no problems. Hope this helps.

I had the same issue on my new Ipad.

Fixed by doing the following

- Under Settings, Wi-Fi connect to your wifi network (enter password if applicable)

- Under Settings, Wi-Fi select "ask to join networks" = ON

- Under Settings, Wi-Fi select "Wi-Fi" OFF, then ON

Check that your network now automatically connects. It'll now do the same if your device sleeps or you close the cover on the new IPAD

Hope this helps

I'd like to add my penny's worth.

Both me and my partner have exactly the same phones. (iPhone4s) and I have an iPad2

All join the same network fequently at our house and friends.

all running 6.1.1 (iPad on 6.1)

My router is up to date, and running on several flavours of 802.11 (belkin F7D4302v1 for the nerds) using both 2.5 and 5ghz

I have a 40mps Internet pipe working perficly.

Im also a network engineer by trade.

We will be standing side by side, my iPhone4s will remain connected to WiFi, where as my partners iPhone4s will randomly drop on and off WiFi and to some extent stay using 3G. iPad also remains connected.

I Have re-set BOTH Phones and run duplicate settings. My Partners Phone STILL drops WiFi.

Bollo**s is this a router issue 🙂

Hi, just to let you all know that the wifi connection in my IPad 2 has been bothering for some time, always having to switch off and then on wifi.

But today the sun just shone.

After trying lot's of configurations, I just disabled the WMM in the wireless settings of my router (TP-Link WR841ND), and no more switching wifi off and on.

Hope it works for someone with similar annoying problems.

All the best!
