I had a screen issue on my iphone 5, so I took it to the apple store and they swiftly gave me a replacement phone. This new phone has the connection problem as described here. It jumps on and off 3g a couple times then it just drops the connection and goes to 'o' (I'm on sprint). This is in places I had a strong connection with my previous iPhone 5 and where my wife's iPhone 4S gets a strong connection. LTE seems ok, same as before. I'll be going back to the apple store tomorrow to get another replacement.

There is a problem with the antenna on some of the iPhone 5s. The battery on my new phone was draining quickly, even when I wasn't using it, so I took it back to local Apple store, and they replaced it with a new phone. I was told some of the phones have an antenna problem which causes the phone to heat up as the battery tries to power up the antenna, which then causes the battery to drain quickly. I'm not having these problems with the replacement phone.

Well I got a replacement phone and I can definitely say that it is having the same issues as the 1st. At this point since Apple has noted that there are issues with data and are supposedly fixing them in IOS 6.0.1. I can do without an iPhone 5 for now. I will continue to follow the discussions in this group and other to see if the problems persist. Hopefully I will be gettting an iPhone 5 in the future when I don't have to pay an early upgrade fee.

have a similar issue. Prior to getting the iPhone 5, I had a Samsung Epic 4G. Using the Samsung, I didn't have a signal problem at my house. But now, with the iPhone 5, I do.

I went to a Sprint store, and a Sprint technician told me that the iPhone 5 has a known antenna problem. He suggested that I get AIRAVE, which apparently is some sort of signal booster. Sprint is sending me one at no cost to me. My guess is that the other carriers have something similar. If you're having problems, call your carrier.

If I remember, I will be back in a week to let you know whether AIRAVE solved my problems.

I have Iphone 5 w sprint. I constatnly swith between 3G and o . MMS won't send. Siri won't work etc. It will only work w wifi connection. I did get airwave and it helps alot but only at home. Does me no good when I am on road. Sprint has passed me off to Apple now after numerous attemps to do a Dx with sprint towers.

Apple did a complete reset w me. No fix. The 4S user in our home has no trouble at all.I previously had a Samsung with no problems. Im ging to switch to 4s I guess!

I use the EE/TMobile/Orange network in the UK. The area I live is an accepted weak signal area. I had the Iphone 4s and like you nekokoji never ever got a 3G signal always the o. It may not be any better going back over. I also owned a Huawei WIFI device on the same network which I could hang in a window and get 2/3 bars of 3G signal at the same location.Apparently according to Apple that is because the WIFI device has only one purpose to receive and transmit data and hence has a more sensitive set of aerials. Phones however are multi functional and the aerial is not as good as in the Huawei. A £50 WIFI device bettering a £500 phone its shocking really. My network because of the WIFI device stated its not a signal problem. I have my doubts. However after buying new sims, resetting the network, rebuilding the phone software and threatening to throw it out of the window Apple replaced the Iphone 4S, good on them. Same problem with the new one. Spent hours going through the same reset procedures and rebuilds with no luck. Apple stated the aerial in the iphone 5 was better and they would allow an upgrade (at a cost) which I did. Did it fix it NO. exactly the same issue dropped 2G calls no 3g and the perpetual o. Like nekokoji my network provider are still stating its the phone. The last manager I spoke to for my network 3 days ago stated he had replaced 7 iphones. I cannot attest to the truthfulness of that statement but 'Houston we have a problem'. One salesman in the shop I bought the phone suggested I should get a Samsung s4 it has a better aerial. I like Apple but something has to give. I await my networks' solution I have requested a signal booster hopefully someone will see sense.

I'm also having the same issue. I had the iPhone 4 and it was fine -- good service and coverage and I just got the iPhone 5 and the battery only lasts like 3-4 hours on a full charge. I turned off all the location services on the apps that I don't use too often and that helped somewhat. I also turned off the LTE and it seemed to be draining my battery. I don't get calls at home either, or if I do they get dropped. At work it is worse; no reception and poor cell and wifi service/ no LTE and had to switch back to 3G servcice; I only have one bar for service. If this is an antena or a design problem, I guess I will need to get a different phone or go back to my iphone 4. Too bad- I really like the features of the 5s. 😟 I will have to go to the Sprint store and see if they can help.
