I have a bent iphone 5 ?

i got my phone on release day, and after setting up it put it in my back pocket, i never usally put it in there just my other pockets were full with my car keys and now light as air wallet,

after going to fit a case i finally tracked down i noticed there was a scratch at the top and a bend in the middle of the "-" volume button, some people have been reporting some issues but i woundered if anyone else has experienced this ?

i took it back to the apple store the next day and told me that it couldnt have come out the box like that and its my fault and if it wanted it fixed it would cost me £170 and other than that there was nothing else they would do

does anyone have any suggestions ?

surley the glass should bend if it was so called "gorilla Glass "

thanks

Hi, signed up to give you some advice.

My girlfriend had the same problem, have heard a few apple stores have blamed user error, she phoned apple and supposedly there are a fair few cases of this, call them, it is a known error, some phones got through apple's 'checks'.

They HAVE come out of the box bent, hers did and inbetween the volume buttons were damaged.

To my horror I too have the bend in the same place as everyone else!

I know for a fact that I have not bent it. I know this because I have straightened it!....Yes...I straightened it!

The force that was required to bend the chassis back straight would definately have given me a bruse on my butt!

You may all flame me for doing what I did, but at the end of the day I now have a straight chassis!

There is a small bezel around the glass screen. I put some clear tape over the area around the volume buttons so not to scratch the chassis bezel. I then took a 10mm square SS bar and but the edge of the bezel on the edge of the bar. Nothing is in contact with the glass screen! Use conciderable force and press down at each end of the chassis at the corners in line with the supported edge to bend the chassis back to straight. The deflection was approx 3-4mm to gain a straight chassis...

If it all goes wrong, you will still need to shell out for a repair broken or not! I took the risk and it paid off for me...its your call, I can only confirm that it is possible!

I recently noticed my phone was warping on the left side near the volume buttons. Yesterday my phone also started shutting off for no apparent reason. I did an online search and came across this thread. I read every post/reply and used the link that someone posted for Apple support online chat. I chatted with a gentleman named Eric, he had me do a few things that I thought was irrelevant to my problem but I was wrong, Eric sent a diagnostic test to my phone and discovered I had a bad battery which is covered by Apple. He gave me a case number and made an appointment for me for the 'genius bar'. I was still skeptical based on everything I read here. When I got to the store, they pulled up my case number, did another diagnostic test and confirmed the bad battery was the cause of my phone being warped and they replaced my iphone with a NEW iphone right there on the spot. Just wanted to share a positive outcome, for some this may come as a little too late but for future reference this may help someone.
