Editing and organising on iPad

Hi all,

I really want to use my iPad to edit my photos. Problem is, I can't seem to find a way to retain my original image.

If I do a quick edit in the stock 'Photos' app, then transfer to iPhoto on my Mac, the original and edited version are transferred. Perfect, except 'Photos' is very limited.

I really want to use iPhoto on my iPad but there is no way to retain the original image.

I see a lot of people using iPhoto iOS, include some pro photographers, so do these people not care about retaining originals? Or do they just accept that their photos are instantly 2nd generation once they tranfer back to their Macs?

Am I putting too much stock in keeping the originals? I never used to but using iPhoto on the Mac and these very forums have thought me to use the original!!

Thanks for reading.

No, it is very important to protect the originals.

I back them up, before starting any edits.

And you are right, iPhoto does not make it obvious, how to save the originals. But it keeps them. You can always use the cogwheel in "Edit" mode to revert to original, even if you quit iPhoto in between. If you share your edited version back to the camera roll, before you revert to the original, you will have both the original and the edited copy in your camera roll.

Can I ask what you do? Do you edited your photos with an iPad?

Gladly.

For many years I archived and edited my photos with iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and iMac, and was quite satisfied with the ease of use. But with a growing library, and also the wish for more control over the editing I finally switched to Aperture. I use the iPad mainly for presenting my images, or as a notepad for taking geocoded reference images and notes when doing field experiments.

But I am probably not a typical iPhoto on IOS user, since I am doing image processing research and teaching image processing, and so I want a very versatile image processing tool. 😀
