Dreaded Beach Ball Back in Apple Mail 10.8.2

Yup, is it back the dreaded spinning beach ball is back in Apple Mail (10.8.2). I am writing this _itch note while I wait for the dreaded spinning beach ball to stop.

It is now making Apple Mail unuseable AGAIN!

10.8.2 has also cause a few other issues. Apple needs to slow down and test these updates before we update.

1) Ask the server admin.

2) If you can access OWA via browser, there should be a question mark in the upper right corner for help and "About". Under About you'll find version numbers. (Don't copy and past anything else here, just in case.)

3) In a mail you've been receiving through that server, view all the message headers. Somewhere it says, "Received: from (...) with Microsoft SMTP Server id (version #)".

With an old(er) version of Exchange it can be that Apple Mail doesn't work properly...

I sadly had to give up using Apple Mail a few weeks back due to the very, very, very, very annoying "spinning beach ball".

Had to go back to Mail/Contacts cuz I had my most recent family email groups in "Contacts" so I could send a virtual Christmas Card to my clan.

As I write this the beach ball continues to spin and I can only type "one letter at a time".

All I want for Christmas is Apple Mail-Contacts-Calendar that works!

Sad, Very, Very Sad.

Just went back to look for some old emails.

Bad News: the "Spinning Beach Ball is Back, preventing me from looking what I need.

Good News: The "Spinning Beach Ball" gives me time to send this note to BOTH this D-List and to FeedBack

All I want for next Christmas (2013) is Apple for considerably improve our most important software on our Mac's (Mail, Calendar, Contacts). They are all very annoying and mostly unusable.

Yup, I am back while I wait for the dreaded Beach ball to stop so I can research some archived email in Apple Mail.

When o when is Apple going to improve our mail, contacts, calendar software. They all stink and I am "forced" to use Outlook 2011, which is not much better.

Please, please Apple make you software at least half as good as the hardware.

Hey Fred,

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on your beach ball experience. Sorry if it's still the same and if it didn't heal itself over time by you simply waiting.

...to improve our mail, contacts, calendar software...

You mean 'yours', not ours as in 'all of us'. 'Ours' run, or there's something wrong with a particular, individual system. Like in your case. In my case it's running - from day #1, and it still does.

I haven't been reading through the whole thread again, but so much is sure: something would need to be done to get you up and running, and if it's a system re-installation, or even a clean install.

Apple could improve your situation; all you'd need to do is carry your machine to an Apple Store or AASP. You must have still warranty on the unit, no? I keep my fingers crossed that you'll get it fixed under warranty... or free of charge, anyway, even in case it's caused by something 'home-brewn'...

LF,

Thx...you continue to be the best help for all of us!

I have gone back and forth on Apple Mail for the many years it has existed and it still STINKS!!!

I want to use Apple Mail more than you know, but it continues to be unusable with the dreaded 'Beach Ball" and other poor performance issues.

Very, very sad that Apple's important software (Mail, Calendar, Contacts) are awful when compared to the very good Apple hardware.

Hope the Apple folks will start paying attention to software soon.

Hi , I'm a complete and utter newbie , just got an imac and already had the spinning beach ball , hm. I tried setting up a second aol mail account and yep in a manner got one. Didn't show trash /sent/saved etc for second email account ,only for the first. However , we were not that bothered as still using PC as well.

We could read my emails in the both accounts , but found that we could only delete emails in the first !

Upon trying to delete the second account emails , yep , the Spinning Ball. Half an hour later , not being able to shut down , I power off . Rebooted and ball gone, without hesitation I removed the second account. No more S.Ball.

PC's work much easier , so , before I use the darn thing again , I'll leave it to the wife, to use just hers in Apple mail .

Perhaps there is a tutorial showing steps to add a second aol account separately so it doesn't get confused ?

What non-Apple programs are you running? Anti-Virus/Security? mackeeper, Little Snitch, etc.?

Hi Pete , thanks for reply .

As to what extra software , only silver light and Flash under support instructions.

Then by peeps in Apple shop , Final Cut Pro x , Aperture , Pages and the cut down Adobe photoshop . Now had it 8 days and well . . . Expect I have much to learn quickly coming from PC . Had heard that the mac system was such a good system . Hm , hope I do not regret spending more than needed. I originally wanted to do 3d and animation as well as photo work . And retire slowly into a trust worthy computer. Until I had the beach ball I had had no reason to believe that Apple had that amount of trouble some have and this may only be a minor incident .

Perhaps reading forums is something I should have done first. However , I'm sure there is much help and looking forward to your reply . .

These are troubleshooting forums a d only represent a tiny percentage of people who use Macs. The many many millions with no issues have no reason to visit here, so it is doubtful you will find a positive post in any troubleshooting forum. Beit Apple. PC or an automobile forum.

If you can post your latest crash report from Consol, that would be helpful.
