Iphone 5 cant send texts or pictures

I am not sure if its an IPhone 5 or IOS6 issue but i cant send pictures via text to some people. I can successfully send pictures to my girlfriend that also has an iphone 5 but when i try to text a picture to a friend that has an android through Verizon i get the red little message saying failed.

I have also tried sending a text message (not picture sms) to an email address and i get the same error.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

I am having this issue as well. I can't send pictures via text to anyone that does NOT have an iphone. My girlfriend has a GS3 and I cannot send pictures to her, nor can she send pictures to me.

The only solution I have found was to turn off my phone then turn it back on. For some reason when I do this the texts go through. I have had to do this 3 times now. Really frustrating and hopefully someone knows the cause of this.

I have Verizon's iphone5 and I found out that pic messages weren't working because I had Cellular Data turned off. To make sure it's On go to Settings\General\Cellular\ and turn On Cellular Data. I originally turned this off to avoid using Verizon's data but unfortunately it seems that it needs to be On to send/receive pics. Hope this helped...

I'm a new iPhone user and have been having problems sending pictures from the iPhone 5 to non-iPhones as well. When I'm at home, my phone automatically switches connects to my wi-fi. Looking for a solution to send pictures, I turned off wi-fi and used the phone's network to resend the pictures and they sent right away. Another thing to try if using wi-fi.

So after 3 hours on the phone with Verizon and 1 hour with Apple it turns out that there was a block on my number at Verizon for downloads and pictures. After that block was removed by Verizon, I can text again!

I never had similar problems with my Blackberry. So make sure you don't have a similar block and don't waste your time resetting your phone your phone multiple times, and restoring from iTunes.

Think different?

I was having a similar problem where intermittently it would say send failure. But I realized that this would happen more frequently when I was home. I never really noticed before because soon as I enter my home my phone would automatically connect to my wifi and I couldn't tell what cellular network I was on (3G, 4G, LTE etc.) because the wifi bars would be in the place of that. But I soon realized it was switching frequently between 4G and LTE at home. I would get almost 5 bars all the time when it was on 4G but only like 2 or 3 when it decided to run on LTE instead. That's when the problem happened most, when it was on LTE. Maybe I live on the bare boarder for the LTE tower near me, but once I turned LTE off in the settings I've never had the sending failure again.

I discovered that I too had been having this problem. My SMSs to friends with iPhones/iPads were getting through, but not my SMSs to my friends with other devices. I called AT&T at 800-331-0500 and they told me that my texting plan had fallen off when I upgraded to my iPhone 5. So they reactivated my text plan and now I have texting capability again. Hope that helps!

I have both SMS and MMS turned on but I had turned off the subject line and it seems to have helped the problem but not solved it. I am in the process of trying to figure out the order that I need attach the picture to the text in order for it to go through. Sometimes it comes from the text message itself and sometimes it has to be generated from the picture. UGH!!! iphone5 you are making me want to go back to an android!

You should check Messaging settings.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Messages
  3. make sure that in the SMS/MMS section that MMS Messing is turned on

Note: This feature can be turned off and you can still send MMS "Pictures" to another iDivice, when iMessage is turned on.

I belive that this is probably the reason you are having this issue.

Hope this solves your issue. Good Luck! 😎

I Had this problem when my phone was new every service provider has a set of setup instructions for iPhone on there websites. Normally under help and support it will tell you to enter details into the cellular settings etc i did this and haven't had any probs since. Normally it is a service provider issue not a faulty iphone hope this helps , good luck
