Apple TV update 5.1 broken?

I'm having the same problems. After updating my ATV2 to 5.1, the apple tv can no longer find my content on itunes. I can push music from itunes or from my iphone, but can't push any video content from itunes to the ATV. When I try to go to my "computer" on the home screen of the ATV, it searches and searches, then says "It can't find the content, please make sure the ATV and itunes are on the same wireless network".

What I want to know is this: How do I downgrade my apple tv software to before the upgrade? I'm not running itunes on a mac...how do I do this? I'll gladly back down a step in order to be able to play my movies and tv shows...

My apple TV is stuck on the Whats new screen. It goes away after a while, but when I try to watch previously purchased movies it just crahses and goes back to the Whats new screen. This is not a good trend. What is with all these issues help is having. My ipad seems to be crashing more along with my iphone 4 ios6... Not impressed at all... Apple was supposed to be the guys who got it right..

Thanks for the advice. But I tried that, and it didn't change anything - still had the home sharing issue afterwards.

Incidentally, you don't need the power cable for the ATV2, just for the ATV3 - full instructions here.

Jbergeson, a micro-usb (to give it its accurate name), is just a cable as you assumed. One end is a USB input for your Mac, and the other is a mini-plug that fits into the back of the Apple TV.

It's important that we all tell Apple about the issue though, then they're aware of it and can do something. You can tell them here.

Its port 5 on the picture below, and according to Apple its use if for 'Servide and Diagnostics'

If you have a Digital Camera / External Hard Drive etc, chances it will have come with a mini-usb cable that will fit.

But I agree; the latest update certainly caused something to stop working. Hope they fix it soon - that's the main thing I use my Apple TV for.

Thanks, but I already tried that (see my entry further up the page). I also used the same process to revert to the previous version, but Home Sharing still wouldn't work.

Yes indeed. I have the same problem. After updating my ATV3 to 5.1, I cannot use home sharing for more than a minute or so before it disconnects. Will not re-connect unless I restart the unit again. Not happy :-(

You can actually do this yourself, if you have a Micro-USB to USB cable. But I've tried and it didn't make any difference.

Not sure whether the repair centre would try this - Apple themselves don't seem to know what the problem is. Of course, they don't communicate with customers, so it's hard to know whether they're even aware of the problem.

my avt2 works fine via lan but cant connect to any apps via home wi-fi even though it sees my VM SHUB.

i need to use it down stairs in the living room ASAP

I updated as well and now despite home sharing being on on both computers they do not show up on my apple tv. This renders it useless since I have someone who is unable to walk and needs to be able to access many things via the tv.

Any help?

Everytime I try to turn airplay on to show my desktop screen on my apple tv I get the following error message:

Er heeft zich een fout (-6722) voorgedaan tijdens de verbinding met het AirPlay-apparaat 'Apple TV'

"An error has occurred (-6722) during the connection with the AirPlay-device 'Apple TV'

Anyone else having this problem?

Sorry to be dense, but what is a "mini-USB"? Is that a cable that goes from the USB port of my computer to a port on the Apple TV?

Hello. A mini USB looks like the one that you connect to a camera. That goes on the back side of the Apple TV underneath the HDMI.

Looks like Apple are working on it. I tried my Apple TV just now, and it managed to see my iMac using Home Sharing. It couldn't connect to the iTunes Store though.
