No internet after OSX 10.7.5

I have an issue (seems to be issues with every update of anything …)

Since updating to 10.7.5 yesterday, I have no internetconnection - well maybe I do.

The WiFi is fully connected to the router but the browser gives me a message of not being able to "locate the server". So I figued; The internet is out. But no, the internet works fine on anything else.

So i reset SMC, now when I start up and open up Safari, the page loads, so I try to navigate the page and I get the same error message again … (Can't connect to server).

So to try something different I connect my iPhone to my MacBook sharing the iPhones internet connection (which works fine on the phone), same error yet again. Other computers, as well as other devices, works fine on the same WiFi.

What do I do now? Have searche the forum and Google but no solution …

I don't get all the neardy stuff like Terminal and such, so I am really hoping for a fix that is not to advanced user-ish.

Thanks

How will that help? I mean I'll have a go - but both my phone, my girlfriend's phone and her computer runs fine on the same router. Even when I use my guest login everything works fine ... The update messed with some setting for sure, I just don't know where to start. Every time you update something stops working, it's so frustrating. My girlfriend's iTunes haven't worked since we upgraded her to 10.5. Things stop working if you don't upgrade and things stop working when you do - it's a catch 22. I hope someone from Apple is reading along ...

I've been having the same problem Morten_B. My MacBook Pro 2010 randomly stops connecting to the internet on any internet browser even though the Wifi is fully connected & other devices (iPhone/iPad) work fine on the internet from the router. I reboot my machine and it seems to work for a while then randomly the same issue occurs. Very frustrating. I guess I feel like Apple doesn't have as much incentive to produce solid updates if you didn't buy the latest and greatest new OS. Oh well, I guess I might end up buying Mountain Lion so I can get my lost features back. At least it's only 20 bucks.

Hey there. I had the same issue as soon as I updated to 10.7.5 (Lion) on Friday morning. After spending countless hours troubleshooting my router and my MacBook Air, talking to Apple Care, visiting the Genius at the store and searching the forums/net for an answer, I got the issue fixed. I also use a Netgear router and there are a couple of issues with the update, one being that it doesn't work with the old Netgear firmware. Here's a complete step-by-step on how to get it resolved. My internet is working flawless now for a few hours and faster than before.

1. Update Netgear Firmware: If you can't of course do this from your laptop, try another device (phone, iPad, tablet, etc...).

Enable the Wi-Fi, connect to the router, and go to:

http://192.168.1.1 Type in username: admin password: password

Should automatically tell you there is a new software update. If not, go to Router Upgrade.

2. Go to Wireless Settings (in Netgear): --> CHANGE CHANNEL to 3 or 9. --> CHANCE SECURITY to WPA2-PSK [AES]

3. Let it refresh. (Wi-Fi goes offline and then back on).

4. Go to Network Preferences on the MacBook (or laptop device) ---> Advanced --> and delete your router from the preferred list.

5. Go to Macintosh HD (hard drive) --> LIBRARY --> PREFERENCES --> SYSTEM CONFIGURATION --> and under developer, DELETE the following three (3) files:

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

com.apple.network.identification.plist

NetworkInterfaces.plist

6. RESTART the computer.

7. Go to Network Preferences: At the top, click on LOCATIONS and add a new one. Call it whatever you want. Then make sure when you are done, that it is now working off the NEW location.

8. At the left, you see the pane that has the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth or whatever device listed. Click on the gear at the bottom --> SET SERVICE ORDER. Again, make sure the Location is the new one you just created. Choose Wi-Fi.

9. Connect to your router: Make sure you are using the NEW location.

10. RESTART computer.

Check and make sure you are connected. If you aren't connected, let me know.

Just an FYI:

If you call Apple Care (whether you are in warranty or not) let the first POC (verification department) know you are calling about a software update issue. They will transfer you to tech support. Once they transfer you, tell the tech specialist you want to be transferred to the Wi-Fi specialists. Yes, they actually have a team of Wi-Fi specialists!!

Most of the steps I got from reading the Apple forums here. The only thing I didn't see anywhere was to change the channel to 9. She said it might get busy so remember the channel setting process and change to 3 or vice versa.

Don't listen to any of these that say download this patch or revert to 10.7.4, etc... Just keep 10.7.5 and do these things.

Hope it helps! Let me know 😀

I will definitely!!!!! I am on day 3 and it is still working amazing. I get even better speeds than I ever did before. I actually was in a fight with the carrier for a year because there was a leak in my cable lines outside and they didn't believe me. I was getting less than 1 Mbps upload/download. They said they fixed it and for a while it was working but I was paying for a pretty high plan and still only getting barely 10 Mpbs upload/download. Now I get over 20!!!!! Keep in touch if something changes - so will I.

I am so ticked at Apple right now - the 10.7.5 update is about the worst, bug-ridden update I've ever seen. I have been having internet trouble all week (since updating to 10.7.5) and just discovered that the update is the source. I spent last week trouble-shooting the Time Machine issue with 10.7.5. Apple PLEASE - what has happened to your quality control???

So I thought I'd go ahead and offer the easiest option to fix the problem. Upgrade to Mountain Lion. I had problems if you look earlier in the post and they were instantly fixed by upgrading my OS. Seriously, you have to ask what your time is worth. Twenty dollars for me is worth a lot more than staying on the same OS and trying to do all this extra stuff to try and get things to stay normal. Yah, it stinks that Apple seemed to have less quality control with this 10.7.5, but to me I paid 20 bucks, upgraded in an hour while doing other things, and everything now works perfectly. Plus, I like a few extra features - like notifications, iMessages, reminders, etc. Take my word for it, just swall ow your pride, pay the money and get on with your life. You won't not regret it.

It's not about the 20 bucks, it's about the fact that many of us are using our machines in a high production environment. Major OS upgrades nearly always mean *something* will break or not work as expected, so they are generally reserved for when there is time to deal with such issues. I'm happy to upgrade - just not ready to do it right now and potentially end up with more issues on my hands...
