No internet after OSX 10.7.5

I have an issue (seems to be issues with every update of anything …)

Since updating to 10.7.5 yesterday, I have no internetconnection - well maybe I do.

The WiFi is fully connected to the router but the browser gives me a message of not being able to "locate the server". So I figued; The internet is out. But no, the internet works fine on anything else.

So i reset SMC, now when I start up and open up Safari, the page loads, so I try to navigate the page and I get the same error message again … (Can't connect to server).

So to try something different I connect my iPhone to my MacBook sharing the iPhones internet connection (which works fine on the phone), same error yet again. Other computers, as well as other devices, works fine on the same WiFi.

What do I do now? Have searche the forum and Google but no solution …

I don't get all the neardy stuff like Terminal and such, so I am really hoping for a fix that is not to advanced user-ish.

Thanks

It actually doesn't have to do with Apple. The software on routers (regardless of brand) needs to be updated as well. The only reason you might notice it more with Apple products versus other ones is because Apple products are more sensative to relationships with other product software/firmware. Update the FIRMWARE settings like I spelled out about and maybe it helps. (That is of course if you are using a Netgear router).

I think you were getting a little ahead of yourself and overexcited. I don't think anyone who pays big bucks for Apple products is that proud to fork over $20 to get a new OS. Time is also an issue - just getting to it makes things harder ... and FYI - even with Mountain Lion, and any software updates, if you use certain routers that have incompatible software/firmware versions (like NETGEAR) you are STILL going to have the issue!

If I were you, I would just keep any "solutions" in these forums handy ... you know, so when your next Mountain Lion software update doesn't work well with your router and there is no other OS to pay $20 for, you can get resolution.

These forums are far handier than AppleCare imho. Today I decided to finally bite the bullet and do the ML upgrade. The results?

My Saturday:

Mountain Lion upgrade = $20

Download time = 4+ hours

Install time = 1+ hour

Troubleshooting (still not done) to clear up sync issues, Adobe CS issues etc = 2+ hrs and counting

Someone telling me "Hey - just do the easy/cheap uprade" = Priceless

So what's the final word? Apple came out with a software update "fix" to 10.7.5 .... just did it right now.

The funniest thing - it specifically said it resolves issues with the "10.7.5 update for Lion AND MOUNTAIN LION." OS doesn't make a huge difference guys ... 10.7.5 for Lion v Mountain Lion virtually has the same software architecture, so issues with standard features (Wi-Fi) are going to be there for both. The only thing the software update does for one versus the other is enhance features already there or add a functionality that doesn't exist.

I have almost the same problem, but I am connected by ethernet cable. It appears to be nothing to do with the router, the ONLY address I actually can access is the router itself, on 192.168.2.1!

The problem is not just with the internet, it is connections in general, I recieve the same error when connecting to a MAMP server running on localhost!

I'm a web designer, and I'm completely out of action until this is fixed, please help me out!

@eshghoolak

I tried your 10 step solution that addresses the droped wifi issue, it work for a little over a week and now the issue has resurfaced. How has your wifi been working since you fixed it? Anymore droped wifi? I'm beginning to regert my purchase. I mean, I really love this new mac but, I never had so many issues with my pc. I think I still have time to return it to best buy. 😟
