MacBook Pro CD/DVD ejecting problem

I've just inserted a blank CD into my Macbook Pro and it is completely stuck and will not come out. Has anyone any suggestions. I can't write any data to it and it is constantly trying to eject but with no success. I've tried dislodging the CD with the end of a paperclip but still no success...PLEASE HELP!!

just a note on this, thank you so much for posting it.....

make sure you do not try to hold a button on your wireless mouse it does not work ....the trick "You can eject a disc from the drive by restarting the computer and holding down the trackpad button while the computer starts up. Press the trackpad button until the drive ejects the disc." worked perfect!
thank you again for the advice.....i needed that CD for an assignment at my University and did not have a copy of it, I don't know what I would have done without it....since no other functions worked while it was stuck inside 😟

I can NOT believe this. This is a LOT of posts on this subject and my CD is also now stuck after $3000, 1 week, and 50 hours of setting this baby up exactly the way I want it and selling my older model. Not only do I expect someone to clone my drive into a new machine with a resolved drive situation, but I also want this product recalled so poor saps dont have to spend valuable time looking for these solutions and taking them back to be without a computer which is intolerable these days! Although its obvious Apple will not contact me pretending to not see this post, a moderator will most likely delete it to cover up this fiasco. Upset is just not a good enough word considering I write a tech column in 6 publications and have been praising this thing left and right to the public since it came out. On a side note... you are lucky your computer will at least boot so you have a chance to eject it... mine just makes the noises but wont boot as its looking for an OS on the CD it cant seem to read and is stuck there

After not giving up all hope in these forums, I found this trick, and it is the ONLY one that worked for me. Still need a permanent solution if this continues to happen though as this may not be the best thing for the drive either.... and as far as his comment on not burning in Windows.... that doesnt really seem to be a problem for anyone else I have come across....

Rigth you are, as old wise Yoda would say.
I had a few Philips dvd stuck ( they were actually a little more thick then others), and had to take 'em out helping them with another dvd from outside.
Something's wrong with the assembly, either of the MBP, or the matsuSHIT superdrives.

More, after having burned 300 more dvd on other macs, with no more then 2-3 verification failures, I experienced 3 verif. fails out of 7 dvd burned (all good brand) on the MBP.

Great machine, this MBP, but by far too much **** is spoiling it's goodness.
Bye

I experienced this twice recently, it gave me back the DVD after a few tries. This afternoon it happened again, this time with a Wondows CD, and it completely hung my systems while it tried to suss what was in the drive.

I managed with difficulty to shut the thing down and switch off. Two hours later I switched on and bingo! out popped the CD.

Could this be something to do with the heat of the machine?

Now then... shall I stick a CD in and see what happens? What a dilemma...

What I tried instead, thanks to a comment on this
forum:
http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.php?t=288629 , was
to go to System/Library/Core Services/Menu Extras and
double-click on eject.menu (which put an eject button
in the menu bar) and then click on the eject button
now in the menu bar. Bang, out comes the DVD.

Hi, didn't help thanx anyway
BUT: how do I get rid of the useless menu-button now?
