How to clear mac app store cache? can't download skitch

This works for me when the App Store pages are all blank:

1. Quit App Store
2. Use

   Activity Monitor

   to quit the following processes
   • storeaccountd
   • storeassetd
   • storedownloadd
   • storeinappd
3. On

   Terminal

   delete the following folders:
   • /Users/jj/Library/Caches/storeaccountd
   • /Users/jj/Library/Caches/storeassetd
   • /Users/jj/Library/Caches/storedownloadd
   • /Users/jj/Library/Caches/storeinappd
4. Restart app store and download!

you are not alone, Mac App Store is kinda messed up on ML and nder certain internet connections, I dn't know why.

It's happenning the same to me. I hope they fix this soon, I can download big apps but not small ones... something is wrong on their end...

I was looking for the exact same thing a few days ago after updating and found it..

~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore

Shift+cmnd+G

Copy the path exactly as is, paste in and hit return...bingo!

Thanks Beterhans Pan!!! This solved my problem. I was having the exact same problem with the OSX Server 2.1.1 update. I've been looking everywhere for this answer and you nailed it. I closed App Store, deleted all folders under /private/var/folders (using sudo) and voila. My download has restarted _finally_ and life is good.

I found this answer here:

Enabled the debug menu and then select Reset Application; restart the App Store and now the Download button shows up again.

To enable the debug menu, open Terminal and run:

defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true

That helped me a lot.

I don't know if this would help but I have a similar problem few days ago, I tried to update Twitter for Mac and it didn't work. When the download finally reach the maximum size (e.g. 18.5MB of 18.5MB), the download has stopped and said an error has occurred and told me to go to the purchases page again. I tried to repeat it multiple times but the problem still the same. I already followed the solutions in this forum, like open the terminal etc, delete the com.apple.appstore folder, and others but it still didn't work. Then I read somewhere (maybe in this forum), that maybe the wifi is the problem here.

So I change my internet connection, I use my iPhone as the personal hotspot (using my iPhone internet connection) since it's only a small size app, and finally it works! I can update the app just fine.

Hi Beterhans Pan, the "com.apple.appstore"ache file may be in different location but the common is "/private/var/folders/" it depends on the mac run-time creation.

Path from My Mac is as below: /private/var/folders/y0/2nj5fk9x2gz3yh82dz8p670c0000gr/C/com.apple.appstore

open $TMPDIR../C/

then delete the com.apple.appstore folder

Excellent, this just solved my problem! Thank you (and the Macworld article which made it easier for me to follow!).

If anyone is a bit challanged; CCleaner will clean the cache for you. It also helps get rid of other temp files too.

In addtional, you should close Mac App Store before doing these. Otherwise you'll get failed.
