My iPhone 5 won't charge

I got my iPhone 5 on Wednesday, it charged once but when I went to charge it last night it did not work, has anyone got any ideas?

Have to love irony.. Having the same problem as others.. phone actually seems to be discharging when plugged in. I have multiple cables and tried from multiple sources (docking station, car, direct from outlet). I finally resigned myself to the fact that I would have to do a hard reset.

I plugged my phone into my windows computer to make sure everything was backed up, and guess what, it started charging. I tried again in my car, my apple docking station, and directly into different outlets and it will not charge. Only plugging it into USB on my windows computer will it charge.. irony!!!!!

Forgive me for not remembering but I took the suggestion of the person who plugged into his Macbook, opened i-tunes, and then got his phone to start charging and this worked. Whoever you are thank you! I previously tried blowing (spitting) into the connector on the phone, shutting my phone down for 10 minutes, and pressing both the on/off and the home buttons at the same time with no charge. But even with my "success" tonight I'm still going to Verizon and probably even a MacOutfitters to try and find a more convenient solution.

I recently came across this problem where my iphone 5 had run out battery and no matter what socket i tried charging it in, it just wouldn't charge! I tried different chargers, i tried different sockets, the lot, then suddenly i tried again and it charged.

Just now I plugged it in to my lighting cable and it didn't start charger, it vibrated a lot as if it was about to charge but then nothing.

It was only after I was fiddling about I realized the lighting cable must be completely straight allowing the tiny gold bars to align properly with the pins inside the charging port of the phone. If I moved it to the side slightly it would stop charging, but if its straight I don't have a problem at all!.

I noticed one morning that my iPhone 5 did not take a charge during the night. It was plugged in until 7 when I unplugged it to connect my ipad. The ipad was charging just fine so I told my fiancé about the incident and he said I probably forgot to charge it. I thought I was going crazy for a minute but I let it go. Just 2 days ago the same thing happened but this time it didn't charge after a while. It just died. I wish I had seen this forum earlier. The power button went bad too. I had to click many times to get it to power off or to lock the screen. The girl at the apple store replaced my phone but I lost all my pictures and text messages. I guess it is a common issue with this version. This new iphone I got is much faster than the other one and it does not have the screen glitches the other one had. Many improvements must be done to this phone. This is my first iphone(I've had all versions of the ipod and one ipad) and I never had a problem with my other apple products dying on me. The only issue I had with my ipods(all of them) was with the battery. They won't take a charge after 2 or 3 years of use. All my droid phones still work just fine. Even the very old ones are in tip top shape. Apple needs to fix these issues fast. It is not the cable my friends. I guarantee it is the iphone that is not working properly. The cable is fine. It will eventually charge after some days but who needs a phone that you can't always count on? Apple replaced my phone and I'm thankful for that but I wish we didn't have to have these issues with such a beautiful piece of technology.

Good morning, this blog has provided the tools to effect a solution. First when I purchased my first IPhone 5 yesterday I also purchased two home chargers, a car charger and two extra charging chords, thanks to your dialog on line. At the Verizon store the attendant commented "this phone really charged quickly'" while transferring my contacts to the new phone. After 45 minutes, the transfer was not complete, therefore I went to the Gym, to allow time for my 3700 contacts to transfer. Two hours later, upon returning, the transfer was not complete having aborted at the midpoint, requiring a wipe and restart. The phone was on the charger this entire time. Following dinner I spent an hour entering preferences and setting up two email accounts. Near the end of this process I was disturbed to see the low battery warning illuminate, and dismissed it while reaching for the new charger. After setting the alarm clock for 4:45 AM, I retired with the charger plugged in with the charging symbol showing the lightning bolt. Minutes later upon pressing the "Home / back / reset " button disappointed not to see the familiar battery symbol . I thought, new phone, new stuff. And retired. the following morning, on waking to the alarm, I disconnected the charger, collected my IPad 1 and stumbled toward the kitchen. Coffee in hand I picked up the phone to check the mail from overseas, and was appalled to see the 10% low battery warning. Rats! Reviewing the blog again I saw the post suggesting the "Power-Off" solution. Trying this and opening all of the chargers / chords purchased the previous day I attacked the bugger with a confident vengeance. Firstv charger, first chord, nothing. Rats! Second charger, second chord, same thing. New chord, charger one, success. The plugged in symbol appeared in the small battery at the top of the screen, and the familiar battery appeared on the wake-up screen giving me warm fuzzies for the first time. Having been a field service engineer with multi hundred horsepower industrial motor drive systems for an extended period of time, I suspected there was more here than met the eye. I removed the now functioning charger plug at the phone and noticed how very sloppy the fit was. Also I noted there was no mark on the chord, as Had been present on I everything for 15+years. Plugging the chord in upside down produced failure, inverting it produced the double humm, and the charging begins. Quick, get the sharpie and mark all the chords, done. Maybe not. The little battery at the top of the screen changes symbols from + to the line chord to the lightning bolt. Confidence is waining. To be continued, there is a solution

I just got my iphone 5 two months ago. I had one problem with it before just one time and I fixed it and it worked after just fine. until three days ago suddenly it won't charge no matter where I plug it in!!! I tried the wall, my Macbook pro, my friends IMac, and my brothers wire nothing worked!!! 😟

I even tried to restore it after putting it in DFU mode and still it won't restore!!! it goes all the way till the last step after finishing the line under the apple logo and pops up the error window saying: erroe

-1!!! I really don't want to replace the phone with a new one 'cause I got it from my girlfriend and I really don't want to give it away like that!!! 😟

can anyone help me please?

The "plug phone into computer and open iTunes" solution worked for me and is perhaps the most ******** thing I have ever experienced. I only tried this completely ludicrous idea after attempting everything else mentioned on this thread. I tell you, between my iPhone not charging (resulting in me missing alarms... late for work, and calendar notices... missing business meetings), and my burnt-in retina display, I wish I had stayed a PC guy where my 4 year old XPS and 3 year old Android kept me on time and on schedule... reliably.

Same issue here Hermann, I just buy an iphone 5 32GB from a famous web sales page, I live in Mexico and I couldn't find it here anywhere, they run out and apple stores here in Monterrey don't sale phones so all was perfect since 3 months but today it wont charge and my laptop didn't recognize it any more, I tried to reset it and nothing happens, then I try with my old ipod cable and an connector adapter that I bought from a local cellular store and it worked fine! Now I understand that my cable is broken and for me is no better way than tomorrow run to apple store to get a new cord for about 15 $ and is fine with me, I have paid 700 $ for the iphone and I love it. I just buyed a Mac Pro laptop for my daughter las year and paid 1900 $ a discount price with her student ID and the owner of the store that is also an old friend of mine told me about how apple test everything in Cupertino. I will go visit him next Monday for an explaination on this issue. I guess they didn't haved the chance to test this cable haha...
