I have tried three different cables, two chargers, and connecting to my laptop. I can't get the iPhone5 to charge. I've reset the handset, and power cycled it. I tried shutting down all the apps and resetting also. The connection seems to seat completely in the socket. I did clean it out for any potential debris anyways.
I don't know what else to do. It has been getting worse each day for the last week, but today I can't do anything.
What do I do?
I experienced similar problems: The lightning connector grew increasingly reluctant to to make a connection to the phone, I started getting messages that my cable was not an approved type, then finally the phone would not charge at all. After a hard reboot (power off) the phone would charge with the same cable, suggesting a software problem. But then I took a toothpick to the phone and dug out an amazing amount of compressed pocket lint. The connector has a much more solid feel to it now.
By the way, some people here have used a paper clip to clean the connector. I would never stick a metal object into electrical contacts. The toothpick was perfect.
I started having problems getting my iPhone 5 to charge. as others have noted. I had to wiggle the connector and found that I had to have a constant pressure pushing the connector upward to get the charge symbol to show. I did not find lint in the port. I solved the problem by wetting a piece of paper towel with rubbong alcohol and using it to wipe off the male connector. I plugged in the iPhone and it worked like new.
In the past I have had problems with getting a good contact with the batteries on my wireless mouse. I was told
by a friend that a thin layer of oil from my skin was the problem. The alcohol wipe solved that problem, so I thought to try it on the charger connector.
Thanks for your help Stuey! This actually worked for me, I was very suprised to see just how much Lint came out of the lightning conector. I'll make sure to keep and eye on that from now on, cheers mate.
Hi can anyone help
I have an iPhone 5 ive had it for a while since they first came out and its recently started playing up, in the fact the battery power would drain quickly. Then it stopped charging ive tried everything from changing the cable , plug holding the home and power button, checking for any fluffy in the battery hole , three days ago I took it to a phone shop and had the battery changed and its doing it again . It wont turn on when it charging I can have the phone charge for several hours and nothing ill turn the cable around make sure its not in the wrong way and nothing. From what ive been reading the battery power charging seems to be comin issue I rely on my phone for work.
If anyone could help I would be grateful
Thanks
This was it for me! Totally fixed the issue! The charging cable wasn't able to go all the way into the port. The lint was in the way and pushing it back out.
Thank you!
It was maddening trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. Such a simple and silly solution. Dah!
Thanks again.
*In hindsight, a toothpick would have been a much wiser choice for lint digging ... note to self.

You, sir, are a godsend, after hacking away I eventually managed to clear it so it charges now, thank you so much!
Toothpick worked like a charm. A whole belly-button's worth of lint came out. Thanks everybody for the suggestion!
The USB cable is probably not working. Or their is lint in side of the charging port. Buy try just getting a new USB cable. That usually works.
I tried using a paperclip to clear out the charging port and now it works fine, you may have to perservere with it and use some slight force to scrape the bottom of the port enough to clear it out fully but definetely the solution!
A paper clip doesn't not work the amount of times ive been told this probably by Apple employees, im not at all impressed. Ive had my iPhone 5 for awhile and for it to stop working Iv tried different chargers cleaning the port and nothing. Got the same response when I went to the Apple store thats its probably fluff. Not an offer to send off and repair it or any thing its quite clear it more than that. Theres no water damage it been in the case all the time and also how can it be fluff when ive always used the little rubber battery hole cover. There seen to be pages an pages of issues of the iPhone 5 not charging and it cant all be down to fluff
I have had the same problem. Tried all solutions. No lint. Finally tried to plug into computer and start iTunes. Message said cable bad. Funny because my
apple car charger not working either. However
the crappy two dollar charger from Walgreens does!
Why both my apple chargers don't and my two cheap ones do is a mystery, All this comes after update!
I gently cleaned out the port with a paper clip tip (loads of lint) and it immediately solved the problem.
Removed lint too. Phone now works perfectly
Worked! I had like a ton!
