My iPhone 5 is not charging. I connect it into my Macbook Air and it doesn't charge nor when I connect it into the wall using the adapter. I don't know if something is wrong with my phone because I've changed 3 times the cables and they just work for a few weeks, please help. Bye
Ok so I had the same problem and it went on for weeks and just ended up getting worse then I found a very simple solution. It could be for my phone only but it could be for you as well. Take a tooth pick and clean out all the pocket lint from that little female connector on your iPhone. It worked wonders for me. Good luck.
Just had the problem and changed the cable. It worked.
I've had my iPhone 5 since it first came out. JUST started having this problem yesterday, My sister has hadsame problem for a while now. Sounds like a software glitch to me. Thus begins the END of Apple iPhone.... I am VERY unhappy with this situation!
Apple needs to FIX this very quickly. Many people have started trading in for new Windows phones. I've had my iPhone 5 since it first came out. I have this same problem, and it hppened only yesterday. what is Apple doing about this issue?? I rely on my phone for business, and this issue is one sure way to lose a loyal customer! I use the original cable and power supply, and i've tried restarting, resetting and almost anything possible to get this to work.
Hasn't Apple given a formal response??
Thanks! This tip worked perfectly for me. 🙂
I actually followed your advice and my iPhone has fully charged. I cleaned out the charging connection hole on the phone and it worked!! (It wouldn't charge at all before and I was ready to buy new battery or wire but then read your post) Brilliant. Thanks!!
I JUST got my new IPhone 5C yesterday at the Verizon store. Tried to plug it into my Mac desktop to download from Cloud on ITunes, and the phone does not show up in devices. Tried to charge it last night, and it did not charge. What is going on here?
Now we all know that every single one of these "clean out the lint / fluff" replies is from an Apple employee trying to cover up the issue ... it's way too obvious not to be true ... but what are Apple going to do about the fact that many of us cannot use their product because after the latest software update they have activated a function that prevents non-apple charging cables from working? I can plug the cable in and get the warning that it is non-standard but it still won't charge. It carries current no problem at all, this is easily confirmed by using a multimeter.

Thanks to the people that suggested the toothpick.
Been carrying iPhone 5 in my pockets for 8 months now.
Over the last 3-4 months it's been harder and harder to charge.
Was amazed at how much lint I fished out.
Now works first time, every time.
No, I do not work for Apple.
You saved me hours of time.
Thanks again.

Hello
I am one of the 'clean out the lint' repliers and feel the need to let people know I have no affiliation with Apple. In fact I hate more than most that Apple's brand loyalty is through necessitation rather than choice, but this is a matter for another discussion. Since cleaning the lint from my phones charging socket, I gave found that I have to plug my charger in a certain way up. I've had to use a marker pen to mark what way round I plug it in. This isn't ideal, but I can live with it. If it didn't work at all then I'd be a bit more annoyed. As for whether I'm an apple employee, well willy bum poo plop.
Genius. I thought I had tried that but evidently not enough - this time I jammed a paperclip in there and a whole load of fluff came out and the charger now works with no wiggle. Thanks!
genius...never thought of that, but you're right, cleared a bunch of lint out, now the lighting cable fits nice and snug, charges with no problems.
Easy thing to try is to take a small straight pin can carefully clean out the port. I had a simillar problem within a short time of having my phone. I was shocked at how much lint got compacted in there. About a minute of cleaning out the port with a thin pin I was back to charging!
