In imessage under send and receive I have both my wifes phone number and my phone number. How do I delete her phone number?

Try to turn off (wait 5 sec) and back on iMessage.
I've tried following the advice in this discussion but nothing has worked yet and I'm not sure my issue is quite the same. Basically, my daughter got her first iPhone with one phone number and for various reasons we changed the number a couple of hours later. In the interim, however, I'd sent a Message to the first number from my iPhone. Now, whenever I want to text her from my iPhone, the new number is there so that's all fine, but the old number shows up as an option too, which is annoying and a little confusing too. This doesn't happen with any other of our family iDevices, since only my iPhone ever communicated with the old number. How do I stop the old number from appearing on my iPhone? Thanks
Tap on "I" symbol beside the old number when appear and tap "Remove from recents". You have to run iOS 7 to do that.
Thanks but I'm staying on ios6 for now - what else do you suggest?
Restore as new (not from backup) is the only real solution for you but you can try a workaround. Assign the old number to a fake contact and try to send a message to this number. Try to send it as an iMessage or SMS.
Your workaround worked around! I assigned the number to a contact entry I have for telemarketers with a silent ringtone, sent it a text, and now that number doesn't show up any more as an option for my daughter. Thanks!
You're welcome.
doesnt work for me though, I do exactly that, reboot my phone, turn iMessage and FT on, registers the correct number, click next and the "old" number comes back erasing my current number
I have a friend who switched to Android from iPhone and now I can't text her because her number still shows as being an iMessage number (with the blue bubble) - my phone tries to send her the text through iMessage and of course it doesn't go through. I've seen elsewhere that the problem is on her end - she has to deregister her old iPhone on the Apple website - but she tells me that some iPhone users are able to send her messages so the problem must be on my end and she's too busy to try my solution.
Any suggestions as to anything I can do?
The problem can be caused by more than one thing.. Your phone has her as a contact.. Your phone thinks it is an iphone because imessage HAD worked.. Delete the contact and recreate a new one.. You can test this first by turning your imessage feature off in settings. All messsage bubbles will be sent in Green (SMS) Deregistering is primarly for people that switch itunes/icloud accounts but still maintain an iphone.
Thanks but tried all of that as soon as it happened - deleting contact, turning off iMessage, rebooting etc, all multiple times. Keeps coming back as an iMessage contact.
Anyone have any other ideas?

Reset your Apple ID Password. That's all there is to it.
