For the time being, I'd suggest to keep all Startup item disabled, that are not in your test user account.

The nik-plug-ins seem also to be active for the test-account, so leave them for a moment.

And what is with the presets?

In my Application Support > Aperture folder in my User LIbrary I see:

User uploaded file

If you only see plug-ins, you may be looking at the System Library and not the User Library.

Remember, your User Library is hidden.

  • Quit Aperture, if it is running:
  • Open the user library by using the Finder's "Go " menu and hold down the options-key, until "Library" appears in the drop down menu. Select it.
  • In the widow that will open, scroll down to "Application Support" and open the Aperture folder.

Good Morning Léonie.

I have created a new "Test" account with admin permission and then I have share with this new account the folder where the library is. I will try to reverse this situation when I'll be able to work on that Mac. In the meantime I put an highlights aon this message https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4379009 as he seems to have the same kind of problem I have caused by a Nik pluging that is the same I have (also if I use it nearly never).

Let stay in touch.

Regards.

Hi, Massimiliano,

if you look at the other thread, check-out my post there - Re: I can't open my Nik plugins after 3.4 upgrade?

Re: I can't open my Nik plugins after 3.4 upgrade?lokk at Nikon's website, if you have the newest versions of the plug-ins and if they are sand-boxed. Otherwise they can cause all kinds of problems with Aperture 3.4.

Hi Leonie.

I have deleted the test account and cancelled the folder permission to be shared. Then I have repaired the acces permission launching Aperture with the option + command keys down and I have been able to enter the program.

Before enter the program I have moved in a folder on the desktop all the .plist file that in my opinion could have something to do with Aperture and the plugins, but it doesn't work. Now I have deleted from their roots the folder of the Nik and Topaz plugins, I have repaired the database, but the result is always the same. There is some report that I can post to you to give you some more data to understand the problem? I always post my report to Apple as asked by the system, but they've never answered me at all.

I want to give you to more info: since I have nstalled this ****** update the Mac is hot whenm is working and for the first time I can hear the ventilation working; in the dashboard I put calendar, dictionary and other things, but when I restart the computer dashboard is always as standard with meteo, calculator and clock.

This could help?

Massimiliano.

Massimiliano,

Is Aperture still crashing, or what is happening now after you tried all the fixes? Did you install the last update to aperture 3.4.1 in the meantime? That is supposed to fix the bugs caused by the last update.

Is possible to go back to previous library version? I

That is only possible, if you have a back up of the Aperture library from before the upgrade.

You would have to revert to an earlier Aperture version using the trial version, then upgrade to Aperture 3.3. from the support page.

Léonie,

1) I have moved all the .plist files I suspect have something to do with Aperture on the desk

2) I have moved on the desk a couple of Topaz plugins and a Nik plugins (that I have nearly never used)

3) My Aperture installation is Trial 3.1 -> update 3.4 -> update 3.4.1

4) My Aperture library is about 250 Gb with 451 projects

5) Opening Aperture I have made the database reapir

6) Now Aperure is open, the rainbow is spinning since 30 minutes, the ventilation is running, the Mac is hot and very very slow.

7) I really appreciate your help, but this is the second week end I will spend to try to recover from this ****** update and I wish to know how to solve this problem.

Regards

I am really sorry, that none of the fixes that I know has helped so far.

Have you considered to get help at the nearest AppleStore?

Is Aperture hanging while finishing the repair? Or did the repair succeed, and Aperture is hanging after opening the library again?

is Aperture the only application, that makes the Mac run hot and very slow?

Yes, but then I will have to pay for assistance and I find this is incredibly arrogant from Apple that should have to pay time I've spent on the computer.

No

Yes

Yes

The only other thing I can say is that Dashboard now doesn't retain any change and when I restart go always to standard and this is also for Apple account that always asked if has to save password and evey time I connect again ask for password anyway.

But I would like to know where is Apple in all this mess! Isn't possible they release such an update and don't charge any responsability of it leaving all the solution to a community.

I have send dozen of crash report to them, but nobody has contacted me and I don't know how to contact them.

I'm a professional and I found this really the same "Microsoft behaviour" that I wish to escape buying a very expensive Apple product.

Apple where are you?!!!

There may be a problem with your system drive; I'd verify the drive, and, if necessary, repair the system drive. See the instructions here in Pondini's Time Machine manual:

Time Machine - Troubleshooting A5. How to Repair or Verify Disk

Also I'd run a general hardware check over night:

Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test

If there are problems with the system drive, that needed repairing, and the problems persist, I'd recommend to reinstall the system.

When you are sure, your hardware is o.k., rebuild the Aperture library.

Hi Léonie.

My Mac is in the Mac Store where I will have to pay to restore its functionality, as the problems where bigger than my skillfullness and I cannot loose al my weekends on a pc.

I wish to thank you so much for the time and solutions you have share with me trying to solve the damages of Apple Aperture update 3.4. I hope I won't loose my pictures.

I'm still astonished for this story and for the fact that Apple hasn't right even one string to apologize for the problems has caused to so much people. I was trusting them, but it is clear that they are walking the same Microsoft's path cacthing money from customer giving back uncertain quality products.

Have a nice Sunday and thanks again for help.

Massimiliano
