Abandonware games

Hi,

Anyone know where you can get all the old (abandonware) games for the mac, I used to use the macintosh part of the underdogs website but the whole site seems to have dissapeared. Any one know another good place where I can download the old games?

Thanks
Connor

You can download on Windows PC-if you've got a CD-Drive on Mac,you can burn on Windows,CD-R,Nero,Slow speed,ISO9660.
You should download the full system in ONE folder(without any expanding!),and burn that folder.
IF you have a PowerMac with PCExchange(or AFE) you can use PC-formatted disks to transport the files.
You need Stuffit on the MAC to expand the files there.
IF you have a PowerMAC with ethernet you can connect with Windows PC using DAVE from thursby.com(free trial for three weeks).
Good luck

Alaskan > I was gonna direct link ya ta "System 6" at the time but I didn't feel like it
& I figured you'd be able ta find it lol
I apologize for that !
I'm gonna find out where ta get "System 6" directly ....
But the link that "APPLE][Freak" was kind enough ta provide's the link I was lookin' for ! lol
And asking if "System 6" stuff'll work in "System 7" 's a great question 'cause I was always worried
about that myself ! lol
It certainly will work !
APPLE][Freak > Are you the same guy from "Macintosh Garden"?
Just wonderin' .... lol

Wow, thank you both. I found that page initially, but for some reason could not find the system 6 section.

So next question. Baring hooking a mac directly to the internet, is there a way to have my pc burn a cdr that can be read by those old power macs. Also, along the same questioning I posed earlier, should I convert my power macs, now on varied forms of system 8, back to system 7 if I plan to build and run a network/localtalk network for the running of nettrek? Thanks:)

On 1. The major problem I'm having currently is that I need system 8.6 to update my preforma's to ethernet (which would be very nice, neither have internet access otherwise). The problem i'm having though is that the power pc 7500 I'm using (the only mac that has ethernet/internet. oddly enough) is using an old 3.0 microcrap browser, which crashes on me very 5 pages or so. Further, most of the archived files I need are in stuffit format, and I can't find a stuffit for these era macs anywhere. Assuming I could however, and assuming I can find a copy of 8.6 so i can at least bring these power pc macs I have into the world of ethernet/internet, I should be able to direct connect the rest of my older macs to these. The trick though is getting this bloody power pc to work for me, and to date it's been a frustrating effort in failure.

For Stuffit 4.0.1 you can use MacDisk.exe(on PC):
http://rrzs42.uni-regensburg.de/Macintosh/files/macftp.html
Thanks to Jan Hedlund:
"Go to this web page ( http://rrzs42.uni-regensburg.de/Macintosh/files/macftp.html ). Download the MACDISK.EXE file onto your PC. Prepare an empty 1.44 MB PC-formatted diskette via the FORMAT A: command in DOS or the "Full" formatting option under Windows (this is an important step). Run the MACDISK.EXE program on the PC (you may have to temporarily unload any anti-virus software to do this). Follow the instructions on screen. When ready, immediately eject the floppy (now automatically in a Mac format, ready for use in a Macintosh computer) and move it to the Classic. Drag-copy the StuffIt Expander installer onto the hard disk. Run the installation program."
For browsers you may look at:

Cary,

I'm getting this message at Macgardens:

You have encountered a site malfunction. The problem will be looked into shortly.

get recent games: select DISTINCT GAME.*,SCREENSHOT.game as has_screenshot from GAME left join SCREENSHOT on GAME.id = SCREENSHOT.game and SCREENSHOT.verified = 1 where GAME.verified = 1 order by GAME.downloads desc LIMIT 10
Got error 28 from table handler

Anyone else getting this, and any idea if they plan to fix it soon? I love this site, and now that I'm ready to use it I'm sad that it isn't working!

Hey Alaska !

Forgive the lateness of my response.

About the screenshots at "Macintosh Garden" not workin' ....
That's a problem that's been goin' on for about a year now & in my humble opinion
I don't think it's ever gonna get fixed.
Sorry for the disappointing news ....

And about the version of "NetTrek" you mentioned -- I'm not at all familiar with the game
and the only version I've heard of is the one of "Macintosh Garden".
Sorry about that.

Later!
