changed network

I have just changed internet provider and have a new WiFi network. I had a Time Capsule and an Airport express running on the old network but both now are not showing in Airport Utility. They are supposed to show up in the WiFi menu but neither does. How can I find them again to reset the new network details?

Our ISP is Vodafone NZ we have one IP address and we are DSL.

The second router has its own wireless network.

We have stopped trying to configure the devices to each network and are only concentrating on the primary.

We have now successfully updated the AP Express and it is now working with ITunes on the primary network.

Still trying to make the TC do the same thing.

Thanks for the update - just to clarify further, is the second router set up to provide DHCP and NAT or is it in bridge mode? - it should be in bridge mode to avoid double NAT - and if you reset the TC to factory settings and unplug the Express and the second router, you should be able to set it up by itself just as you did with the Express - please note that the operative word is "should" - let me know how you make out.

Frustration again. Cannot get TC to show green no matter what. Have checked settings on router the only difference is the security settings on the router is WPA-PSK the TC does not offer that option also under Network mode the choices are "create network" Extend network" or Off" nowhere does it seem to say "Join existing network" as AP Express. It shows up sometimes on Airport Utility but when I make changes it just vanishes again.

Once I stated messing with TC, the AP has now ceased to work despite showing green on the device.

It still shows in AP Utility but with yellow warning triangle and nothing shows at all on ITunes.

It has to be something simple!

Wow! New Zealand is kind of far from North Carolina - the internet is amazing - anyway - it might work - you should try and match the security as close as you can - you might have to do some trial and error there - and if you are using an older version of the Airport Utility, the "join" choice is only available under "assist me" on the base station menu - but if you looked at the thread that I sent you, it might not work - however I have one last suggestion - if you can get your primary router to run in modem mode only, you can set up the TC as the primary router (and acitvate the guest network - this is secure but keep in mind that it cannot be extended) and use the Express as a wired or wireless extender - if it is wired, you can create a second wireless network but as before, all clients can see each others computers this way - check out this website and see what you think - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259

I have switched off the wireless network provide by the router and concentrated on trying to join my devices with the remaining "guest" network, no luck there either.

it looks like this new router simply will not allow these devices to work. I have all but given up, the AP Express sometimes joins but mostly not, obviously a compatibility issue. The TC simply will not work.

This is nuts, yesterday i successfully changed all settings on both AP Express and TC after hard resetting them both. They both instantly recognised my network, joined and happily worked correctly.

Don't ask me what I did differently!

HOWEVER! This morning when I switch on the network NEITHER device works!

They both show in Airport Utility with the big yellow triangle.

Does this mean I have hard reset and reconfigure them each time I switch off the wireless network?

Should I just leave it on permanently?

As the computer is connected to the internet by ethernet is this an issue or should I only be connected by one method?

SO to sum up it it appears if you turn off the wireless network the settings in the devices are lost.

I have just hard reset both of them and again reconfigured to join the network and both have done so successfully. What a nonsense, previously the network couldbe switched on and off at will without affecting any of these devices. Why would this have changed?

Hi - Is there a message with the triangle? or somewhere else in the utility? - also, if you get it going again, don't ever switch off the network - once the Apple devices are happy with the connection they should stay that way - and I would just do a power cycle again - you shouldn't have to do any re-configuring - but I don't understand what you mean by the computer is connected to the internet or by one method - and finally - there is a soft reset (power down then re-power) - then a hard reset (hold in button while plugged in) and finally a factory reset (unplug, push in button, plug back in) - only the factory reset wipes the device - let me know how it goes

I have been doing hard resets, there is only an exclamation mark in the triangle, when you say power cycle do you mean unplug then plugin again?

The computer is connected to the internet by ethernet cable

If these devices are to work wirelessly we need to turn on the wireless network.

At that point should we disconnect the ethernet cable or can the computer stay connected using both the ethernet and the wireless network or will there be a conflict? Should it be one or the other?

Oct 4, 2012 10:22 PM in response to Donald and Gillian McDonald__

Hard resets are only good when you want to change forgotten passwords and retain the other info - and a few other choices - power cycle is a soft reset where you unplug and replug - this just renews connections - a factory reset requires you to supply all new info to match your current configuration - I only do factory resets - and with Windows computers, there is no conflict - you can keep connected via ethernet - and be connected to the Wi-Fi - in my case, the WiFi is the preferred connection and takes over - if wireless is lost howver, the etherent will take over - but to use either separately you would have to disable one adapter or the other - I am not familiar with Mac'a but it must be a similiar setup

Check out this Link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728 to learn more about the resets

I don't ever see any reason to turn off the wireless network - but a wired connection is always more reliable

I tried to cover all combinations - if it is confusing I am sorry - it is late here and I am going to sleep
