Downgrade iOS 6 to 5.1.1

Very supportive.....not!

I thought this was a community for support, not for sarcasm from some very unfunny members.

I don't understand all the anger, either!! I say that I've not found any problems with Apple Maps myself, and wham!! Suddenly, I'm the most hated person ever! I understand that others have found problems, but honestly!! I didn't cause them!!! And I understand that you've got problems with them!!! But, please don't whine at me!! Sorry, I was rather upset when I wrote that last post but honestly, you've not been attacked, it's not a disaster. It's an inconvenience.

Not wanting to lose Maps is one of the reasons that I don't want iOS 6 either. I feel like I'm being held hostage because I can't restore or unlock my iPhone 4 without changing to iOS 6 (which I will not do).

Apple offering the option of free iOS updates is great. But, customers should be able to keep the iOS and features that were on their device when they purchased it.

I happen to like my iPhone 4 as it is. (iOS 5 on it)

No, I'm not saying that people shouldn't care about losing it. I'm saying that its not a HUGE disaster! It's an inconvenience that we've ALL had to deal with! Why isn't the fact that there are other maps options not the point?? I honestly would like to hear your answer. I'm not sure I understood.

If this forum is meant for a user to user interaction then may we ask the US based users to refrain from commenting here as this isn't about the use in the US. We do understand now that you have the least problems with iLost Maps because it works for you to some extent and you can tolerate and live with it until an upgrade is released.

For us outside the US and specially those who take the time and effort to write here, iLost Maps doesn't work at all. It is just a digitized version of the local paper map without any further functionality. No routes, no street views, no proper search results, nothing at all. Just a disgrace to software industry and to the concepts of the software QA.

All we want in this thread is to get IOS 5 back to use the native Google Maps App we used to have. We tried ALL the suggested alternatives and they weren't anywhere close to what we used to have before that **** "upgrade"

And to the liars Apple executives who promised us to have the "most beautiful, powerful mapping service ever" with this **** upgrae I would like to say just one word: "**** YOU"

My point is big picture about the iOS 6 update, not just Maps vs Apple Maps.

- We bought the iPhone 4, at least partially, because it included a set of apps/features.

- We paid for those apps/features as part of the phone.

- The iOS 6 update takes some of those apps/features away.

The fact that you can get different apps isn't the point.

Whether Maps or Apple Maps is better isn't the point.

The point is that Apple has taken something away that people paid for.

"So just don't update to iOS 6" isn't really a full solution either.

To unlock or restore your phone you must update to iOS 6.

I agree with you. You pretty much have to upgrade. But, wasn't it really Google's fault, and not Apple's??
Apple should not have taken that away~if they did. I'm not blindly defending Apple here, and I'm not blindly hating Apple, either-not saying that you are, of course, but that some are. I'm just trying to say that there are other options, though I suppose that really isn't the point. I just want others to know that.

Perapoma is right. I, too, live in Japan and it the new maps is pretty useless in up here in Yokohama. There are other mapping options, too, but I'm debating about whether or not to make my 4s my last Apple product or not. My friends on Droid and having an awesome time rubbing in my face that they can actually find their way around on the native Google app whereas I have to go with MapFan, Navi or other native J map app to help out.

That's fine, the native J map apps are great, but the anger and resentment I've seen from the fanboy crowd (who, I'm guessing, couldn't find Japan with an [Apple] map) is horrible karma. We have a user who wrote about a legit problem and they get mocked by the fan core sheep. Disgusting, really. I'm hoping karma comes around and kicks your little scrawny butts.

Screw it, I'm jailbreaking my phone as soon as the dev iOS 6 is posted. It's just a matter of time.

Perapoma, as one JP resident to another, brother (or sister?), just hang on - once an untethered jailbreak is available for iOS 6, I am there - if you're interested, I'll help you with the break...it's a lot safer now than it was back in the 3 and 3g days. Cydia's app store, I hear, will have a Google Map app available shortly. That said, post-jailbreak I don't think I'll upgrade my iOS again until after a jailbreak is dev'ed up. I can't live with Apple Maps. And, you mocking little SOBs aside, the app is a disaster, plain and simple.

Same problem and same lack of understanding from those who live in a country Apple has deigned to give better support to (USA) and not in one where Apple has forgotten exists (Japan), despite the fact that Japan is one of Apple's core markets.

Since none of the critics have ever lived here, I'll help you out.

1. ioS6 maps in Japan are horrid, they lack even some of the largest map markers in the country. And not just one or two missing. I mean 30% of data is just gone.

2. Google maps allowed for effective searching in English or Japanese. Apple's map simply does not. It drops you into other countries, other places, when you try to romanize the places in japan. For those of you who don't live here, Japanese is a difficult and massively expensive language to learn, and if you don't already speak it when you get here, people will generally shun you unless they speak English (which almost nobody does). Meaning learning Japanese is not on the menu for a lot of people here. And they relied on the English maps support.

3. There are no local equivalents in English on the app store. nobody has a full map of Japan except the Japanese ones. Somehow the Japanese providers have managed to lock out everyone who's not Japanese. All maps of Japan sans Google are in 100% Japanese and have no English assistance, or it's 1% of the map markers. Google made it possible for us to carry on our lives here while we more easily get into the lifestyle... saved us tons of time and stress. Apple came in, ripped that away and said "be happy with these driving directions... (more on this next)

4. Nobody in any major city in Japan drives unless they are stuck up or a taxi driver. Even the richest man here is just as likely to take a subway. Yes, I know, it boggles your mind as the average American... I bet Apple programmers in their Lexuses are sitting staring at the screen trying to understand "how is it possible someone doesn't drive?!" All I gotta say is "the world does not stop at the US borders". And this is from a US citizen living abroad.

5. Most of all -- I came here, expecting difficulties.... sure they happened, but I found ways to handle it. I never necessarily LIKED them all but I could, with stress, manage it. I paid through the nose for Apple's iPhone because it promised something easier. And you know what? It delivered!

Now Apple goes and rips that away from someone who paid for an expected service. I am not a subject of Apple to be deigned to be given whatever the master decides is good for me. I am a customer who paid for a service and now is unable to use that service. And thank goodness I have a backup 3GS... ever thought anyone would be saying that? But even that is now on life support as I hope to god I'll never have to restore it as Apple holds me hostage to any restores.

the message here: just because your circumstances are not the same doesn't make you right. Sometimes someone else is living in a situation where they need something you don't... and they believe having paid for a certain item, that customer experience should either improve or stay the same, not degrade.

So very disappointing.....just upgraded to IOS6 after returning from a long holiday abroad and found that street view has gone. Yes, I'm aware that you can use street view on googles web browser but its just not the same - I can not zoom-in to road/parking signs, which I use to heavily rely on for work.

Would Steve Jobs allowed the release of this crap piece of work called apple maps???

Big mistake by apple now have to find an alternative.

We all in this page agree with you and all we need from you is to continue writing here and in every media you can reach to keep the pressure on Apple to allow downgrading to iOS 5.

With this technique we have so far achieved two victories. Apple changed the wording of its misleading ad which promised the world as you could see in the pic below and we forced the CEO to apologize in public. The third step is to allow us to get back to normality with iOS 5 until its time to buy the new device. Then we will have our word over Apple and its CEO and they will learn how to like us and stay loyal to us. We have done our part of that loyalty for years.

Welcome to all Japan based users who are joining forces with us.

We can "force" Apple to allow us to get iOS 5 if we keep this pressure here and in every media we can reach to.

Let's see how Apple responds when it is head news that the new wish of its user and ex-loyal customers now is "downgrading". What a PR!!!
