Downgrade iOS 6 to 5.1.1

I have an iPhone 4 and I'm resident in Japan. Until now, with iOS 5, the iPhone was my life-saver to go around the places: accuracy, possibility to input names (and get them found) in kana/kanji as well as in alphabet, public transport combinations, etc.

I updated to iOS 6 believing the Apple promises of "new and better features", and now my iPhone is a useless brick! IOS 6 Maps is only good for the US, maybe! We don't drive around everywhere in Japan, we ride trains and use public transport. IOS Maps external appls links just make the application collapse and I have to restart the device; doesn't find places... IT´S a HORRIBLE DISASTER.

Instead of the apology letter from Apple, could you allow the downgrade to iOS 5 even if it was for a few hours, so that all these people like me who are now extremely frustrated could roll back to have again a useful device?

I thought Apple's iPhone was a great device; but now, when there's a minimal request, I feel prisoner from Apple's ****** decision. I honestly don't see the customer friendly attitude here. Absolutely unhelpful on the phone; no solution.

You consider a text amendment and a meaningless letter as 'victories"? Ha ha! You're easily pleased.

And even more ridiculously you're claiming responsibility for these so-called "victories"? You're delusional!

Your claimed "victories" have fixed absolutely NOTHING for the millions of iOS 6 users with maps problems. Congratulations! Have a gold star. I look forward to your next claim of victory.

Ex-Apple Fan, I totally agree with you about your comments about the media. I have posted on a parallel forum about this very point and they've heavily edited what I've written. It's now difficult to speak openly because they're censoring us. Pathetic really when you consider that they only have to open 5.1.1 on a temporary basis for their existing customer - the right thing to do and great publicity.

It's such a shame that a company who values it's reputation and image so much (and I do mean image - take a look at the swanky slick Apple Stores) are going to get such a slating in the media. The very public that they target will soon read and see bad publicity and the squeaky clean and polished image (which has cost so many millions) will be tarnished for a long long time. Read what I'm saying people.

To the Apple moderator - Go ahead and edit this post if you like (as you have before on a parallel post). It will only make me even more determined to take public action - and believe me I will. Big time. I'm actually hoping you do edit this because its really going to drive me forward. In the immortal words of Mr. Eastwood; "Go ahead, make my day".

Dear Tim Cook,

I am a customer who has been loyal to Apple for the past 5 years during which I have bought tens of Apple devices for myself, friends, and relatives. We live in a country where we don't get Apple releases on their launch day but I have ways to get them from US or UK in the interim.

We were promised the world if we upgrade our devices to iOS 6 and specially to get the most beautiful and powerful mapping service ever. I upgraded and since I live in Dubai Apple Maps didn't give me anything more than a pocket size digitized map that is far inferior than the local paper map. Apple map in Dubai hasn't even limited functionality that Apple Maps has in the US. I tried to use many alternatives but none of them brought back the functionality I used to have before this upgrade.

I tried to find solutions and went to the official Apple Support Community forums on the web to find individuals carrying levels and points who were trying to silence every criticism, complaint, or negative experience in the most unprofessional style addressing expressions to Apple customers in the form of "you are moaning", "stop whining", "go to other suppliers", "who forced you to upgrade", "we don't want you here..go away" "you were sent by Google to troll",..etc. The impression left on everyone who came to those threads for help or discussion that these individuals are an organized gang of badly trained watchdogs whose only task is to make fun and be sarcastic of genuine Apple customers who dare to mention that as we are Apple customers who pay our money to Apple, we deserve a better treatment and we want the functionality we have paid for. They keep directing us to a feedback page on Apple site for iPhone that doesn't even enlist the iOS versions while it does mention all those for Windows and Mac OS!!

Millions of existing Apple customers including me own devices (other than iPhone 5) have upgraded to iOS 6 but we didn't like it as our devices became less functional. All that we want is to have the choice to get back iOS 5 until the time when iOS 6 gives what it promised. iTunes doesn't allow us to make this "downgrade" for reasons that none of us is able to understand. Why our devices have become captives to iOS 6? iOS 5 is still supported and millions of those customers who were more prudent than us and didn't upgrade to iOS 6 are still happy with their devices running iOS 5. Why can't we?

Finally, I would like to ask you if you still think that a company which makes "downgrading" an impossible wish for its most loyal customers could continue to be worth working for, investing in, or buying from?

I have 3 service provider contracts in 3 different continents for a total of 12 iPhones in a family of 4. I was impressed, happy and awed by what our iPhones were capable of UP UNTIL IOS 6.

I have seen almost a thousand threads of complaints with the new software upgrade and STILL no word from Apple. Do you think they actually READ the support communities and just sit and laugh?

I either want to be able to downgrade back to 5.1.1 or after almost 3 weeks of struggle, someone at Apple should come up with a 6.1 upgrade to respond to their customers needs as any company worth their word should do. Its simply called CUSTOMER SERVICE. Being held hostage to what APPLE wants is painful.
