My dock, finder bar, apps are all 'solarized'

I have no idea what I did wrong. Suddenly everything is 'solarized' - has a reverse coloring. the dock, for instance, is gray and the icons reverse colors. The uppermost Finder task bar has a black background, white lettering and any icon is solarized. Even my dekstop image suddenly shows as solarized.

My applications, similarly, have black backgrounds and white lettering.

I've turned off all APE's.

I'm running 10.4.6.

Please advise. This is maddening and I can't logically figure out what's happened.
