iPhone 5 can't send SMS - gets an error when sending SMS

People - I'm using a Sprint iPhone 5 with my local GSM chip. Everything works fine, except sending SMS.

All basic troubleshooting has been done: checked SMS settings, erased Network Settings, checked SMS Service # through *#5005*7672# and it is fine, restored the phone and re-checked everything above again... and nothing. :-(

Please help?

I had to call Sprint. I told them everything stopped working right (SMS texts, phone calls) after I upgraded to the new iOS. They activated my phone as if it was "new" and I was able to use it after that. It was only about a five minute call, but incredibly annoying. I blame both Apple and Sprint...why should the new iOS necessitate reactivating my already activated phone? Not cool.

I changed one setting on the iPhone 5 and all of a sudden I couldn't send out a message to anybody who didn't have an iPhone. Believe this is an iPhone 5 quirk, because I have an iPhone 4s company-issued phone, and I don't have the same issue with it.

For some stupid reason I went to Settings>Messages>SMS/MMS and slid the OFF button on "Show subject field" on my iPhone 5 to ON. That's what screwed up everything. I could type out text messages, but wouldn't be able to send them out. Got a message saying MMS had to be activated.

After scrolling around on these forums, I saw where someone mentioned the "show subject field" setting. I started playing with that and voila, problem solved.

Just wanted to share in case it could help anyone else.

SMS failures may be caused by missing or wrong message center number. At least my problem was so.

try to dial *#5005*7672#

This will show your operator's message center number. Verify this number.

If it is missing then you need to set it by dialing

**5005*7672*messagecenternumber#

messagecenternumber is your operator's number.

In my case(Turkcell) I dialed **5005*7672*+905329010000#

TO EVERYBODY HAVING THIS PROBLEM:

I live in México and I buyed 2 sprint iPhones in USA. When I get to Mexico, I went to Telcel to activate the iPhones in their network. everything goes perfectly but the SMS. I tried everything posted here, I called sprint, I do whatever was published here and none worked. I wen to Apple at San Antonio and they try to help me with the problem and THEY CANT DO NOTHING.

Then, Telcel call me to tell me they get the new chips for LTE. I went to Telcel and as soon as we changed the chips the SMS problem has gone.

So, we try to find out what happened and here is the real problem:

1. The chip has to be Nano Chip. If you CUT the micro chip to fix it to iPhone 5 it will work but the SMS problems will be an issue.

2. LTE technology fix the SMS problem as Sprint phones are fixed for LTE not G3

I was desesperated trying to solve the SMS problems and try everything posted in this blog and after 5 months, the answer come alone when I used LTE nano chips from TELCEL and not the cut chip.

Try that with your cel company and I will be sure you will fix all this problems.
