iPhone 5 can't send SMS - gets an error when sending SMS

Just to give you guys a summary of what we've tried here (and to avoid you having to jump through the same hoops) the following does NOT work if you bought the 16gb Sprint model and are experiencing the 'Not Delivered' SMS error outside the U.S.:

1) Calling Sprint (you probably paid the 'unlocked' price and as a result won't have an account with them so they know nothing about you/your phone).

2) Calling your carrier (if they're outside the U.S). The problem is with the phone having a lock on outgoing SMS.

3) Resetting Network settings.

4) Using the *#5005*7672# trick to reset the message centre number.

5) Restoring from iTunes/Backup.

6) Restoring as a new phone.

7) Removing sim, putting sim back in.

8) Resetting phone.

9) Tinkering with iMessage/MMS settings.

10) Talking to a Genius.

unfortunately my experience here in ITaly is even worst then yours as Italian Apple customer serivce don't admit its responsabilities and still ask me to call Sprint as they think that only Sprint would be able to solve this issue. I will inform you if and as soon as I have some good news from them.

Is anyone from Apple checking these posts from all over the world? Why they are treating their customers like this? Any good company would respond immediately and solve an issue that affects so many customers! Apple WAKE UP! Give us a solution before we move to your competitors and do our best to ruin your long lasting reputation!

I suggest we create a Facebook group to raise our voice so someone from Apple responds with a solution! NOW!

Hey, we can add Romania to this problem too. A friend of mine bought an iPhone 5 for me and it's working fine for calling, data and others, only SMS doesn't work.

Neither iMessage or Facetime can't get registered with the phone number... That's really frustrating, hopefully they will find a solution fast enough for it.

Have you checked to make sure there's a country code on the number displayed in the 'My Number' field?

Yes the "My Number" filed has the country code displayed properly, although iPhone didn't recognized the number itself. Still can't send SMS, got the "Not delivered" error after a very short time, like it didn't even try to send the message ...

That means you also picked up a sprint iPhone 5. You're in the right thread with us other schmucks :)

Yes, I picked up a Sprint iPhone 5 indeed ... How can I send this case to apple? At apple support site I can see only the call option, can't I send an email to them or something similar?

I believe calling them/getting them to call you is the only option available to us. However, if I come across an email contact I'll be sure to post it here.

I don't think I have good news for you.

I've just got through a 40 minutes call with Apple Senior Support guy. He told me that if a restore from iTunes doesn't fix the problem then you have to replace the iPhone, and replacement is done only in USA, if phone is bought in USA ...

You can call them via Google Talk in gmail account for free, as it's a landline number, so please call all of you who have this problem to +1-800-694-7466 via google talk and tell them the problem you have, may be they will do some software fix for this, as replacing it in USA is not an option for us ...

They tried to blame the carrier, but I explained that I have tried the same SIM in another phone and it worked fine with SMS messages, and that just iPhone 5 from Sprint doesn't send SMSs.

No good news so far 😟

I ll give you worse news, that is CDMA phone. Replacement obtained with much trouble will not work either. Just does not have to. Magic wand that can be waived and locked cdma phone changed into unlocked gsm- does not exist. Sorry, please don't hate me.
