How do I remove a peak distortion from a recorded clip?

I recorded a speaker in a conference setting without the opportunity for a sound check. By the time I could get the levels set, the audio had peaked 3 times... is there a way of removing the peak distortions?

not really. first rule in recording is get the levels right. once distortion is recorded there's little you can do to remove it short of physically cutting it out. you could try and minimize the distorted effect with some EQ....
