My battery on this 5 is the worst out of any iphones I've had (1st gen, 3gs, 4s, and 5). It drains really fast and will even turn off with anywhere from 20-45% battery but when it's plugged up it instantly comes back on with whatever battery level it died at. Sometimes if you let it set a while after dying it will eventually fire back up sometimes staying on for a while and other times it may not. My phone also gets pretty warm sometime.

I didn't really notice this issue until the iOS update but maybe that is a coincidence. I would've went to the genius bar but my warrant is up. I recently broke my screen and was going to get a battery when I got it fixed but this thread makes me think that may be pointless.

I was having same issues. I thought it had to do with the update. Finally went to Apple store and turned out my battery was bad. I replaced my battery and back to running like new. I have noticed in many of the iPhones I repair the batteries are not affixed as they should be which allows them to bounce around. I tend to wonder if movement in the case is having an effect on the ribbon cable or battery. Apple should call the boys in china and tell them to get it right. I have repaired some that the battery just falls out no adhesive at all.

1. Close all of my apps (using the app switcher; double tap home, press and hold an icon, click the red close button);

2.Settings > General > Reseet > Reset All Settings. (Does NOT delete apps or any data; just resets network/iOS settings);

3. Wait for phone to restart;

4.Plug the charge cable on your iphone ***CHARGE WITH ENERGY****DO NOT CHARGE ON YOUR MAC/PC***

5. Charge it up to 100% ; leave the phone charging energy in another hour ;

i have also been struggling with this problem myself. My battery on Iphone 5 only lasts 4-5 hours on standby. After changing out the battery twice, i finally took it to a repair shop and they said they could not fix it. Told me it was not the battery and was most likely the motherboard. I think all our problems with the battery can be traced back to an internal problem, and has nothing to do with turning off notification or any other the other suggestions here. We really need to be looking at an internal issue.

hi

they keep deleting my posts about that, but what helped me tremendously was simply switching off SIRI competely...

My phone died within 4-5 hours (new, clean install, the third new hardware in a row)... and since I switched off SIRI it holds the battery for over 24 hours even if I use it a lot...

told it to the Apple Store 'geniuses' today in Berlin, hopefully that info makes it into the next update.

best

My case is exactly the same as the original poster:

Swirching iCloud (sync) off SOLVED MY DRAINING PROBLEMS on my iPhone5s!

I sympathize to you all that have seen your battery start draining, some with the 7.0.6 (or before?) and with the 7.1 update. After the 7.1 upgrade, I went from 2 days of "normal use" to 2 hours, having the CPU running at 100% most of the time.

I was about to get crazy ($900 for a unusable phone???). I did everything, everything off, reset, restore from iCloud, full restore from iTunes, always with worst results...

In my case the culprit was a/some process(es) related with iCloud (sync).

I disabled "Documents and data" and "Safari" and - MIRACLE - that was it, back to CPU at 5% and normal drain...

(I disabled everything from iCloud and put them on later, except those ones).

SOLVED! 🙂

Ever since iOS7.0.6. and still on iOS7.1 both me and my wife had huge battery drain on our iPhone 4S and stand-by was equal to usage time. We finally found the solution to a post of another user on the Dutch Tweakers forum. There seem to be a bug within a certain Dutch coupon app called 'Scoupy' which drained the battery completely although GPS setting was turned of and also 'refresh on background' was off.

Scoupy said that a fix for their app is send for approval to the App Store. We removed the app and our usage/stand-by time is again as normal (higher stand-by time then usage time) and best of all a 'normal' battery use as it was the case on iOS7.0.4. I hope this could help someone. I'm wondering if the iBeacon changes in iOS7.0.6/7.1 together with a bug in the Scoupy app could be the cause? Maybe this is also with our similar apps you have on your phone.

and add me to the many people that from one day to another found themself with a battery drain problem. Everything was perfect just a week ago and then it started to not even hold a charge in standby mode which it did without any problems prior to drainage problem.

Then I start reading about drainage problems and to my surprise found so many people having the same exact problem with no solution anywhere near.

I tried like everybody else to disable anything that might cause this problem but no success. icloud siri app refresh etc. even in airport mode, battery drains like it is in use.

I did reset the phone but as so many people experienced, it made no difference.

it is clear that searching for a solution takes you to forums that are filled with comments by customers that there is no solution and what is worse, that this company called apple, doesnt care at all about the thousends of customers that purchased in trust and paid a lot of money for a product that is worthless. whatever happened to recall and is that even legal? With so many customers effected, it should be recalled. anybody having this problem should at least be given a working product. I paid 450$ for a product that is just a pain to say the least.

When the phone was working, all was well and I was pretty amazed by this product even though I was tricked in believing I bought something new (iphone 5c) only to realize later that it was just an old iphone 5 with a color.

I was able to take that hit since it was my first iphone ever, but when the drainage problem started I was beaten.

the apple iphone is becoming the worse phone I have ever had. With other phones you just change the battery and thats it, with iphone, you can change the phone and get a new one and the problem is still there.

Here are some interesting stats.

charging from 1% to 100% prior to the problem in around 2 hours

with the problem in around 5 hours

when in standby without the problem it would stay on for days

now with the problem, a few hours

even with everything disabled nothing changed

I pretty much feel like throwing that phone into the the face of the apple ceo and see if it fits.

FRUSTRATING

Jun 5, 2014 4:02 PM in response to tbkonwso

Same issue. Had a huge argument at the apple store. They were basically trying to fob me off. Telling me to pay £50 for a new battery. Brought one off ebay instead and changedit but no luck. Still same issue. Iv had enough of apple. Now buying a samsung and so is everybody else i know. Used to respect the company but not anymore. Iv tried reset all, delete all, apps, switch off everything. Nothing works.

Jul 10, 2014 10:47 PM in response to tbkonwso

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST FIRST BEFORE EXECUTING ANY STEPS. IT WILL SAVE YOU ANY ADDITIONAL FRUSTRATIONS. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO KEEP ALL YOUR ICLOUD SETTINGS ON.

So I was experiencing very similar symptoms with my iPhone 5 and here's what worked for me after a couple visits to the Apple Store (I do recommend paying a visit yourself as it's always best having a certified Apple Genius at your side). This was more software related than hardware (via Apple's diagnostics test) and I'm willing to bet most reported issues are the same.

Disclaimer: You will loss all your settings and the apps downloaded from the App Store. Don't worry, you can re-download them using the same Apple ID you purchased them with. With that said, I highly recommend doing the following first.

  1. Manually back up to iCloud (this is important). If you don't, you risk losing data for anything turned on under your iCloud settings.
  2. Your text messages will be wiped so save any info/photos/videos you may want to keep.
  3. Export your photos/videos from your photo library and save to your computer. You will lose these during this process.
  4. Your call history will be wiped. Save any numbers you don't already have stored. Run another iCloud back up if you took action on this step. This will ensure it's saved for later.
  5. Take note of any particular settings because they will be reset. I wouldn't worry about it too much though. You'll be able to figure it out again.
  6. Go to Settings, tap on iCloud, scroll down to Find My iPhone and make sure it is off.
  7. To be safe, set at least an hour aside. It'll be worth it when your battery holds a longer charge. Trust me. Think of this as "spring cleaning". A lot can happen if you've never done this before and been a long time iPhone owner, like me.
  8. Make sure you have a solid Wi-Fi connection. If it's password protected, you will need this in later steps.
  9. Make sure you know your Apple ID and password. You will need this in later steps.

Now that you've prepared yourself, here's how you get your battery life back. From what I was told, there's 2 types of resets. The one that saved my sanity will put your iPhone into DFU mode. This is like taking your iPhone out of a recently unpackaged box, shipped straight from Apple. This is what we want, a solid starting point. For the rest, follow these next steps – exactly.

  1. Press/hold down the power and home button, simultaneously.
  2. Keep holding until your iPhone reboots. When the Apple logo appears, release the power button and continue holding down the home button.
  3. If you've done this correctly, you'll see an iTunes icon with a cable. This is DFU mode. If you don't see this screen, carefully repeat steps 1 and 2.
  4. Next you'll need to plug in your iPhone to a computer with iTunes (Note: this does not have to be your computer... just one with a good internet connection and the latest version of iTunes)
  5. iTunes should detect the iPhone in DFU mode (recovery mode), asking you to restore. This is what you want to do.
  6. Click the button that says Restore iPhone
  7. Let iTunes run. This completely wipes your phone and re-installs a fresh iOS. Hence losing everything mentioned above.
  8. Once the installation is complete, your iPhone should display the welcome screen. Stick with me, almost there.
  9. Slide to start, choose your language, then country
  10. Login to your Wi-Fi network
  11. Set your Location Settings to your preference
  12. Important: you want to choose Set Up as New iPhone. It's better you do, trust me.
  13. Next, Sign In with an Apple ID (this is the same Apple ID you were manually backing up to)
  14. Accept the Terms and Conditions
  15. Use iCloud (again, this is the same Apple ID you manually backed up to which will restore data like your contacts)
  16. Run through the rest of the setup process until you get to your home screen
  17. Epic! Your iPhone should start restoring your iCloud data based on what you had turned on (see #1 on previous list)

Remember the time we left aside? Time to re-download those apps, from the App Store, and re-config all your settings. The great news, your battery should be holding a better charge. If your battery is still giving you problems, it's most likely a hardware issue and I'd, again, recommend visiting an Apple Store.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!

I had this iPhone 5 from my relative in Japan and told me that it has some battery issue I thought that it was just a simple issue that I can solve but I was wrong. I did all the possible solutions such as turning off location services, Siri, notifications, iCloud almost everything also the itunes restore, manual reset etc but nothing has changed. I also went to an apple service center but sad to know that they are not fixing iPhones came from abroad (here in the Philippines). For my last option I replace the Battery but again nothing has changed. Every time I go to bed I have to connect the phone to the power bank so that I can use the phone when I woke up and don't have to wait for almost half an hour for initial charging after being drained. I think it's a matter of issue in the board of the phone, hope you do action regarding this.

I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH YOU APPLE! first iphone first big disappointment in a phone! I will never purchase iphone. I better go with samsung!
