That's amazing.

I have pretty much the same setting as you, except that I don't use location service.

My phone reads

Usage: 1 Hour, 38 Minutes

Standby 4 Hours, 32 Minutes

Battery: 77%

This is significantly worse than your result... I tried pretty much everything I found on the internet, and the battery is still draining really fast.

Frustrating!

I've charged my phone and got up to disconnect it from the charger at 5:00 AM, woke up at 8:30 and the battery was still on 100%, then I've started using it as normal and when I got to work I've done some reading and changed the Fetch settings in my iCloud and Gmail account to Manual instead of Fetch.

After changing these 2 to manual, I am now with Location Services on for Facebook, Maps, Siri, Skyscanner, Speedtest, Weather and Find my iPhone, Wifi and BT are off but I've used Wifi for about 30 minutes today. Today I played Coin Dozer for about 15 minutes, had several phone calls, browsed Facebook, read and sent quite a few Whatsapp messages, checked Gmail, Flipboard and did some web browsing as well and this is where I'm at right now:

What do you guys think? I think my performance is pretty good right now.

^^ here's my story - I had amazing battery life with my .Mac account running on notification.

Then I added my Gmail account as an exchange account, so it's now also a PUSH account. And then my battery life dropped by about half a day.

Unfortunately push email is pretty useful for me. But I think either Mail is doing something really bad, or notifications for email are just that expensive.

My gmail account has way higher traffic than my iCloud account - I get most of my email on gmail. I am now thinking of switching Gmail to a normal non-push account and only check ever 30 minutes or so. I am subscribed to many mailing lists - these never show up in my inbox, they're filtered; but I have a feeling each one sends a notification and briefly wakes the Mail app.

A 3rd party mail app might be another alternative, actually. In fact, I might try the gmail app for my gmail account, let's see what that does....

Summary: Mail can be a significant battery drain. Setting to manual of course removes that but I think even setting it to check less frequently, e.g. every 30 minutes or something might help.

Hey dude,

I think 3 main things helped my battery:

1. Deleted my iCloud account - iCloud has a terrible data leak which sends and receivs data over your 3G or 4G network at all times. Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qezboCfNm4

I am leaving it off until fixed by Apple.

2. I removed my Gmail account settings from iOS - Decided to download the use the 3rd party Gmail app by Google. It's faster, looks better and has a better UI. Plus you don't have to worry about Fecthing settings as you only fetch when the app is turned on.

3. USE WIFI! - Maybe the most important one, I always thought that leaving Wifi off saves battery, well yes, if you're not using your phone to browse the internet and fetch data from apps you should leave it off. But if you're like me and you check Facebook, Flipboard, Emails, news websites, downloading apps etc you should definitely enable and use Wifi wherever you have the chance. By doing this you eliminate any cellular data transferring to your phone and you extend your battery usage. The truth is, Wifi actually saves you battery when connected to a stable fast data line. Also one of the main Wifi battery draining reasons is asking to join Wifi networks since it's constantly scanning, disable this and you're good.

Here's a screenshot from my usage yesterday, I've used the phone a LOT yesterday: For Emails, web browsing, Facebook, Instagram etc, several phone calls and at least 1 hour of 3D gaming, I am using Location Services for some selected apps such as Siri, Facebook, Maps, Weather and Whatsapp, nothing more is needed if you ask me. And this is what I got:

As you can see I still had 20% left which probably could yield at least 90+ minutes for around 6.5-7 hours of net usage and I took this screenshot exactly when my phone hit 20%.

Let's face it, the iPhone 5 is power hungry and you probably won't be able to squeeze 9-10 hours of net usage in a single charge, unless you're lucky and got a spectacular battery OR if you don't close background apps! People who have 9 hours of usage usually leave stuff like Whatsapp, Phone, Settings or other stuff running in the background, the background usage is minimal but still counts as usage, so you could get 8 hours of usage with apps left running in background when your actual usage was 3-4 hours for example.

But I think anywhere around 6.5-7 hours of usage from 100%-0% is considered good, especially with all the features this phone has.

Hope this helped you, good luck.

I've had the exact same issue as many people on these threads: wife and I bought two new iPhone 5s (16GB). Both restored by iCloud backup from our iPhone 4s. First couple days we both experienced pretty terrible battery life - my phone with 'light' web and app usage it was <50% after 2-3hrs. I was very concerned since this was about the same as I got with my 2 year old iPhone 4.

I tried the fix mentioned on some other Apple discussions thread: Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings (and also Reset Network Settings). Then used both phones until battery life depleted and phones shut off.

Fully recharged them and battery life has vastly improved. No need to disable all the good features like iCloud, itunes Match, Wifi, LTE, notifications, or frequent email checking! Now my phone can go about 8hrs strong with frequent usage before I need to charge it.

It sounds like this has been in issue for many people who restore their iPhone 5s with a backup.

OK, so here's what fixed my iPhone:

Usage and standy times were pretty much the same, battery never lasted more than 3 hours even though I didn't use the phone at all, just sitting on my desk, it would be dead in that time. It was ridiculously frustrating!!

I took to the Apple Store twice, on the second time it seems the problem is gone. They reinstalled the software and I set up as new phone and had to download all my apps again as it was the first time. DO NO RESTORE FROM BACK UP. The problem will be restored again into your iPhone if you restore from backup. My music I got back from iTunes (on the phone) >more > purchased > music > purchased songs and there you'll find the option to download everything all over again.

The only down side from this new set up, is loss of games data. All my angry birds 3 stars are gone, which is not a big deal, I'll just have to play again 🙂

The usage and standby times are normal now, the percentage of battery looks normal, I didn't turn anything off such as the LTE or wi-fi. I'm happy again!

After having further battery problems (the phone was warm to the touch) and after doing a hard reset with no better results I did the same thing as app267, I reinstalled my software chosing to install as a new phone, I did NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP.

I am now getting impressive battery times. Usinng my phone to listen to music and some web browsing and email I easily get 10 hours and still have 50% battery left. As app267 says it is a bit of a pain to set up your phone all over again and put in all the missing data but the payoff is brilliant and worth it IMO.

Hi Michael1199,

Go to iTunes and plug your iPhone, then restore it with factory settings. Next step, you choose language and all your preferences and START AS NEW PHONE. And that's basically it. Your apps you need to download again from your app store on your phone, including the paid apps, you won't be paying again. Same with songs you paid, you can download it and you won't be paying twice. But all data you'll lose if don't back up to your computer before following the steps I mentioned before. Game data is also lost. Just do not restore from the backup. iCloud will have your contacts, so is one less thing to worry about. Hope this helps!

Here's Apple's support page on how to do it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Don't forget your setting it up as a new phone DO NOT RESTORE from backup.

iTunes will download a new iOS version and install it, wiping your current settings, music, apps, etc. You can redownload your apps later and you'll have to re-enter all your settings (though stuff like email will show up again in Mail once you enter your Apple ID and password in the setup proceedure.

Once reinstalled your phone will prompt you for setting it up. It's quick. You'll have to re-enter stuff like passwords and reset any settings you've altered since you bought your phone. Then you'll have to redownload your apps (I think its quicker to do over your mac and iTunes than on the phone but you can do it either way. If you're attached to your mac you can also reorder and make app folders probably more quickly than doing it on your phone.

If you ripped music you'll have to reload it from your mac through iTunes. If you bought music from iTunes you can download it.

Books in iBooks are recovered as soon as you sign in with your Apple ID. Same with Amazon books through the Kindle app.

It's pretty straight forward, just a bit tedious to reset up your phone.
