iphone 4s videos won't play in Quicktime

Hello. I've recently downloaded the lastest iphone 4s software (this may have nothing to do with the problem I have) and I've discovered that whilst the videos I've taken with the iphone camera video play on the phone itself, they won't play in Quicktime (or Real) when I've synced the phone ot the computer. The audio plays but the screen is black. I've taken 6 videos and all are the same. I've played an earlier video taken some months ago and that does play both sound and pictures. Funny thing is, when i upload the movie file (the one that plays only sound with ablack screen) from my computer to You Tube, the picture magically reappears again!

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Yep me too, won't play.

Iphone 5/windows 7.

The problem must be in the encoding that the phone uses for the .mov format.

I have transcoded the mov video to mp4 and avi and both will play sound as normal but stick on the first frame of the video.

Tested in quicktime 7.7.2, windows media player (W7), and VLC 2.0.2. Even Picasa won't play it (and it plays older iphone videos fine).

Anyone else not able to check for updates in QuickTIme? (Help>>Update Existing Software) Can connect to their sight for all other functions but not this one. Is this a good sign that they are at least aware of the problem, possibly disabling the update function until there is a resolution? Am I the only one with this problem? (Windows XP, SP3)

My problem is that I cannot play video on my IPhone 4S. It keeps stopping every mili second and it is driving me mad. I never had this problem before. I have IOS5. This problem is affecting my skype as well, it does not work as well as it used to and it is very upsetting when you are trying to get hold od family and friends. I have a long commute to work and I am always watching something on youtube to stop me from falling asleep but all it does is makes you more frustrated. Sometimes my network it really good but if i am trying to find something on google for example it tells me no internet connections. I have tried to get in touch of my carrier just to put my mind at rest. They tried to help me and everything they instructed me to do did not work. So please can someone get back to me on this as my phone is my neccessity.

I had this issue, too. If you're dealing with the same problem: it is NOT the fault of Quicktime.

After some experimentation, I discovered that the problem is most likely the sync or iPhoto (if you used that app, like I did). Initially, I made the mistake of grabbing all my video and image files from my phone after an update with iPhoto...and then I deleted them from the phone. I don't believe iPhoto is up to the task of decoding a video file...so they were playing black in Quicktime with no audio. Even when I transfered them back to the iphone they played this way.

This was partially my fault...it should have been common sense not to use a photo application to deal with videos. Nevertheless...

The simplest way to pull these videos (on a Mac) is to use the image capture App instead of iphoto, syncing videos or even imovie (iMovie will work...but it's inconvenient). Image Capture can be found under the finder menu: Go > Applications

I took another video and then tried to pull it off the phone with image capture and it worked flawlessly.

I do find it a little ironic that it was easier for me to pull recorded media off of my iOS device with a Windows machine than it is with my new MacBook. My wish is that the iphone would appear like any other external storage device which you could open and drag/n/drop files...

Same problem here with my iPhone 4S recently updated with iOS 6. Quicktime Pro 7.7.2 won't play .mov videos transfered from the phone. When I try to view videos in QT all I get is a black screen and sound.

I didn't have any problems with videos before, the problems started with iOS 6 and Quicktime 7.7.2.

I downgraded QT to version 7.7.1 and althoug I can see image and sound now, video is not fluid. They are dropping frames.

When I try to edit videos in Corel Video Studio X4 the frames are staggering.

What a mess.
