iphone 4s videos won't play in Quicktime

Hello. I've recently downloaded the lastest iphone 4s software (this may have nothing to do with the problem I have) and I've discovered that whilst the videos I've taken with the iphone camera video play on the phone itself, they won't play in Quicktime (or Real) when I've synced the phone ot the computer. The audio plays but the screen is black. I've taken 6 videos and all are the same. I've played an earlier video taken some months ago and that does play both sound and pictures. Funny thing is, when i upload the movie file (the one that plays only sound with ablack screen) from my computer to You Tube, the picture magically reappears again!

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Short answer - NO!

Just updated phone to iOS 6.0.1 and then reloaded QuickTime 7.7.2, the latest offerd from the QT/Apple website. Shot a test video, uploaded it, and the problem persists...

Sure hope Apple isn't beginning the Motorola/BlackBerry slide downward... ILove the iPhone otherwise but I want the COMPLETE iPhone/Smartphone that was purchased. Is Apple listening? Wish there was feedback the the problem was being addressed.

Quicktime 7.7.3 Still have problems decoding the iPhone 4S videos. I can see picture and sound with the latest QT 7.7.3 BUT in my case, I can see dropping frames in my videos taken with iOS 6.0.1, videos do not play fluid. VLC and WMP play videos smooth without dropping any frames or staggering.

Problem is, I can't edit videos on my video editor (Video Studio X5) because of this. Video Studio use QT codecs for .mov files and I'm just soooo disapointed right now.

One of the main reasons I upgraded to the 4S iphone was because the 1080p video. But right now is USELESS. aghh ....

Guys, you are missing the point of the issue! The "older" videos display and edit just fine. The "newer" videos do not display or edit. In QT 7.6 or not, it doesn't matter if you go back to an earlier version (if you want to edit your video... like I want to do).

The BUG is in the PHONE's latest IOS.

My later videos do not edit or display in Vegas 9. However, they display in VLC, IRfanView, and some say WM player (I haven't tried).

The newer videos play fine in the phone, however. MUST be a codec issue, and I am not very up on this! Our best bet is for someone to stumble onto this thread... Apple apparently will not be of any help here!!!

As far as I can tell, the problem is with the transfer of the video. My solution (although I hope it's temporary until Apple can work this out) is to download the video using my dropbox app on the iPhone and then download it from dropbox onto my computer. Video is better quality this way than the youtube work-around solution someone mentioned previously.

I had the same (or at least similar) issue: A video taken with my iPhone 4S (running the most up-to-date iOS 6) would not play in Quicktime player, but it DID play in the Finder preview, surprisingly. I finally figured out what I did wrong: I first downloaded all of my "Camera Roll" to my Mac in iPhoto, then exported the files from there to a Finder folder. However, I didn't pay attention that the default export file type is .jpg - which is obviously not the right one for a video. So I went into iPhoto again, selected the movie file, chose "Export" and then selected "Original" instead of "JPEG" from the "Kind:" pull-down menu. (Stupidly, iPhoto reverts back to "JPEG" the next time you open it - why? Also, why is there no easier way to download picture and movie files from the iPhone to the Mac than the route I just described? But this is besides the point of this discussion...)

Anyway, now the video plays in all the right ways as intended.
